Happiest of the holiday season to our Park Meadows Families!
We love making the holiday season fun at Park Meadows. This is our favorite time of year with Grinch Night, secret staff spirit days, and Student Council events. Though the holidays present joyful opportunities, they can also add stress and pressure for many families. Itâs a time to reflect on what matters most, not material things!
We have been focusing on spreading kindness at school. Our students and staff engage in âKindness Counts Challengesâ to build empathy and goodwill toward our classmates, staff, and campus. We often use the Be Kind People Project as a resource. Click on the button below for ideas for spreading kindness over the holidays.
Remember that kindness does not have to cost money! The effects of kindness last longer and mean more than material items, so consider giving kindness generously instead of buying gifts this year. It will help your budget, too!
Enjoy a safe and happy holiday break.
With gratitude,
Principal Lanese
Attendance
Why Does Attendance Matter?
Every school day counts counts in a child's academic life...
A missed school day is a lost opportunity for students to learn.
Each child may miss a maximum of 18 school days in one school year to be in alignment with Arizona State law regardless of the reason for the absence.

Encourage your child to count and recognize patters in the environment by discussing what they see:
What is the number on the house or apartment across the street?
How many objects are left on the table if I take one away?
How many letter are there in the name of the grocery store that we go to?
How many swings are on the playground?
Have your child look for patterns on buildings, rugs, floors, and clothing
Ask your child how many different ways they can show a specific number, say, 18 (they might say 16 + 2, 19 â 1, 10 + 7 + 1, that sort of thing)
Families play an integral role in education, and these tips can help move your student along in their learning

Don't Forget to Read Over the Holiday Break!
Kindergarten through 3rd grade DIBELS and sight word testing begins this week. Please ensure your child gets plenty of rest and is ready to start their day!
Winter break is the perfect time to explore new books. Weâd love to hear about the exciting titles your child has read when they returnâit might even earn them a PARK ticket (or two)!
Did You Know? Your child can earn PARK tickets and free books for mastering their grade-level sight words and beyond. The more they practice, the more fluent they become as readers!

Winter break countdown is well underway at Park Meadows with staff wearing their winter themed outfits!! The staff is toiling away teaching and helping students and while also doing all kinds of kindness activities for our school community, I am so grateful to be a part of the amazing staff at Park Meadows! Hope you are having fun doing a winter break countdown with your family! It can be a fun and exciting way to build anticipation for the holiday season while keeping your children engaged and excited! If youâd like to stick with the kindness theme that our PBIS team kicked off in October, hereâs how it works: Each day, lead up to winter break with an act of kindness. You can get very creative with it but her are some simple activities:
Compliment a friend or family member
Write a thank you note, letter, or send a picture to someone near or far
Help a classmate with homework
Do a random act of kindness- ensure that it is random (rather than suggested) as it is the unexpected nature of kindness act that has that effect of improved well being
Picking up trash, declutter
Help with shopping and do chores around the house (cleaning, organizing, meal prep, run an errand)
Volunteering
Spending quality time with family and friends
As we approach the close of another year, December offers a perfect opportunity to reflect on the many blessings we share as a school community. Itâs a time for loving kindness, where we come together to celebrate not only the joy of the season but also the warmth and compassion that bind us all. In this season of giving, we wish each and every one of youâstudents, families, and staffâabundant joy, peace, happiness, and good health. May the spirit of kindness fill your hearts, may your days be bright with laughter, and may the coming year bring new opportunities for growth and connection. Together, let us continue to spread love and positivity, making our school a place where every individual feels supported and valued. Our second Battle of the Books is Wednesday, Dec. 11. The teams have been busy reading and preparing. We are excited to see who comes out on top! Parents are not invited at this time as the library needs to be silent for our volunteer judges to do their jobs effectively. Watch our Instagram page for the victorious team! Stay tuned for District battle information in March.
Students may check their library accounts, browse our collection, and place books on hold using the Destiny tab on the DVUSD start page, https://start.dvusd.org/. Make sure to click on Park Meadows!! Books that are damaged need to be replaced new or paid for using this link https://az-deervalley.intouchreceipting.com/. If this isnât an option for your family, please email me to discuss other options. Books that are missing need to be returned. I would love to have clear accounts to start 2025! Grades K-2 keep their books for one week. Grades 3-6 get books for 2 weeks.
A makeover will be happening in our Everybody section in the next few weeks. I am excited to share the changes with the students!

PBIS Corner
For the months of November and December. Our PBIS team decided to do a behavior reset. Teachers retaught behavior expectations in all areas in the hopes of reinforcing school-wide expectations. We continued spreading kindness throughout the campus with Ms. Simpson's homeroom having the most kindness activities. We also did a secret Spirit Week for teachers where students could earn PARK tickets for guessing each day's theme. We will continue to reinforce and remind students of our school mission well into the new year.
We are PARK.
We are prepared to learn.
We are accountable for our choices.
We are respectful and kind.

Good Day Park Meadows Families!
I cannot bel that we are already into December! Time has been going by quickly this year and I am not ready for it to be a New Year. I wanted to update you all on how our Raising Cane's Fundraiser went, because of your support we were able to raise $140 dollars. As always, a portion goes to Park Place and the rest goes back to your students. Thank you for your support, I could not be able to do the things I do without your support.
I do hope everyone had a great time at Grinch Night, sadly I was not able to be there but I heard that it was a blast! This is one of my most favorite nights, so I was sad to miss it. I would also like to thank everyone who came by Saturday and donated items for our Goodwill Drive. Every pound counts for that and 100% of the proceeds go straight to Park Place to buy items for your students to buy. I am looking forward to letting you know how much we were able to raise with that one.
I do not have anything else for December except I hope everyone has a wonderful break and holidays with your families! But, I am so excited about our biggest event coming up in January, which is our Apex event. The kids so loved it last year and I am so happy that we are doing it again this year. You will be getting more information on it after the break, but the fun events on campus start on January 13th! We also have Kona Ice coming out on the 14th during your child's lunch recess time.
I hope everyone has an amazing break, time with family and a wonderful start to the New Year!
