Family Lunch
We look forward to seeing so many families every Friday! Please see below for some important reminders:
-Weather Permitting- Please keep an eye on your email and text messages for any changes. We will try to get the information out to you as early as possible if family lunch is being cancelled.
-Students must stay at the picnic tables with their adult. No running around or playing in the courtyard.
-Students cannot bring a friend from class to sit with their parent/adult. Only parents/legal guardians on the child's information forms in FOCUS can eat with a student.
-Parents/Guardians must check in at the front office as a visitor and get a yellow badge. This badge must be worn at all times when on campus.
-Parents/Guardians MUST stay in the courtyard. You cannot walk your child to the restroom or to class.
*Teachers have been reminded that students need to use the restroom before lunch time, so this shouldn't be an issue. :-)
Parents and Families,
Here is what you need to do if you want to eat lunch with your child:
- Make sure you notify your child’s teacher that you are eating lunch with them, so they can meet you at the tables. If you send an email, please do so in enough time for the teacher to see it before lunch.
- Only Parents and Legal Guardians can eat lunch with their own child(ren).
- Sign in as a Visitor in the Front Office and obtain a yellow name badge (you are not volunteering; you are visiting for lunch).
- You will report to the courtyard and wait on your child. The teacher will release your child to this area when he/she is taking his/her students to lunch.
- This area will be supervised during the entire lunch period.
- If you are not a registered volunteer, you will need to be escorted on and off campus by a staff member.
Every Friday will be available for parent/child lunch. We have limited seating, so you need to sign up through sign-up genius. The link for that is below:

Once again, I am happy to share this news with you. I look forward to seeing you and your child enjoy lunch together on Fridays!
Sincerely,
Candace Jones
Principal

Arriving To School on Time
We all know the importance of being on time to school, to work or to appointments. Teachers arrive at school early to ensure that they are ready for a full day of teaching. Arriving at school 10 minutes late causes a disruption to the entire class, not just the teacher who has already started teaching. Students also must be escorted, so our entire office staff is spending nearly 30 to 45 minutes just walking students to class each morning. We have between 20 to 30 students tardy each day! If a student arrives 10 minutes late each day, think about how much instructional time is lost throughout the school year.
Here are a few tips to help establish a more efficient daily routine:
Wake Up Earlier: Set an alarm for you and your children at least 15 minutes earlier than you would wake up. If you find you need a little more time for your morning routine, add an additional 5 minutes to your alarm.
Layout Clothes the Night Before: What to wear seems to be one of the most time-consuming tasks in the morning. Have your child pick out his or her clothes, including socks and shoes, the night before.
Pack Backpacks and Lunchboxes the Night Before: Each evening after homework is completed and checked, have your child put everything back in their backpack. Getting a head start on lunches is easy, after dinner, have your child help pack his or her lunchbox. This could be as easy as putting fruits and vegetable in sealed containers and preparing water bottles for tomorrow’s lunch. In the morning, you’ll just need to make the sandwiches as your child brushes his or her teeth.
Create a “Last Stop” Area: The ideal place for your last stop area is near the door you leave from each morning whether it’s your garage door or front door. This is where you’ll place your keys, backpacks or musical instruments each evening. It’s a good idea to have a spot for other seasonal items such as jackets, sweaters or umbrellas.
Pack the Car: Once you’ve finished putting the final touches to your child’s lunch, it’s time to pack the car. Since everything you have to pack is in the last stop area, you won’t be running around the house looking for the items.
Being organized and having your child arrive at school on time helps reduce classroom interruptions and distractions allowing teachers to focus on teaching lessons to all students. Students must be in their classrooms by the 8:00 bell, so remember “8 is late!”
Also, make doctor or dentist appointments after school so that your child doesn't miss a minute of learning. Every minute counts!

Morning Mile
In the morning between 7:30 and 7:45 students have 3 options. They may go to breakfast, go to Morning Mile, or go outside their classrooms. Students who choose Morning Mile, but still want to eat breakfast, may go to Morning Mile first and then head to breakfast at 7:45. Students who choose to stay outside their classroom door need to go directly to breakfast when they arrive on campus.
For a student to participate in Morning Mile, they must have a permission slip. Coach Sutherland has been handing them out during morning mile time and asking students to bring them back the next day. Check with your child to see if they have a slip in their backpack!
