KC Cares Food Pantry Feeding District Families
Kings Canyon Unified is expanding its efforts to support students and their families through the KC Cares Food Pantry, a districtwide program offering essential food assistance and connections to local resources for those facing hardship.
Thanks to a generous donation from Woolf Farming and a valued partnership with the Central California Food Bank, the pantry is fully stocked and ready to serve KCUSD families in need. These contributions make it possible for the district to ensure no student goes without the nourishment necessary to succeed in school and beyond.
Through KC Cares, any student and their family in Kings Canyon Unified can receive food assistance. Referrals are made by district social workers, student and family clinicians, and school psychologists who work closely with families to identify needs.
Families who wish to schedule a confidential appointment should reach out to their school site for more information.
T.L. Reed Invites Staff to Focus on Wellness
At T.L. Reed, supporting staff wellness is more than a goal—it’s a priority. Through the ongoing Wellness Wednesday program created by school social worker Veronica Landeros, staff are invited each month to take a break, recharge, and connect in a dedicated wellness room that’s been thoughtfully transformed into a cozy, relaxing retreat right on campus.
Each month, during their downtime, staff can enjoy themed activities designed to promote self-care and relaxation. In the winter, the room might feature a hot chocolate bar, while summer months bring refreshing lemonade and iced tea. Activities have included painting sessions and decorating personalized water bottles with fun, uplifting stickers—small touches that bring big smiles.
Staff love stopping by the wellness room to unwind, recharge, and enjoy a little moment of calm. Wellness Wednesday is one way T.L. Reed continues to foster a supportive, caring environment for the educators and staff who give so much every day.
Big Builds and Bright Ideas at Lincoln Preschool’s Building Study Celebration!
Lincoln Preschool was buzzing with excitement as students and families came together for the grand finale of the five-week Building Study: a hands-on Celebration of Learning! The project brought learning home as families teamed up to create amazing structures inspired by buildings around the Reedley community—ranging from tiny milk carton houses to impressive, large-scale designs.
Before the big reveal, students explored local architecture through photos and discussions, learning about different building materials, styles, and purposes. From historic downtown landmarks to modern community spaces, the kids soaked up inspiration from every corner of Reedley.
During the celebration, students proudly presented their creations in a special classroom show-and-tell. These moments were filled with curiosity, creativity, and lots of smiles—plus plenty of opportunities to practice language skills and boost confidence.
This project wasn’t just fun—it was a meaningful way for teachers to support early learning and connect with families. With teamwork, imagination, and a little glue and glitter, Lincoln Preschool students built more than just buildings—they built memories!
APRIL: Service from the Heart Recipients Shine
Kings Canyon Unified is proud to recognize three outstanding employees who exemplify what it means to serve with heart: Theresa Scott from Washington Elementary, Jenae Padilla from T.L. Reed Elementary, and Josefina Alanis from Jefferson Elementary. Each was recently honored by Superintendent John Campbell with the “Service from the Heart” challenge coin—an award that celebrates KCUSD staff who go above and beyond to create a positive, caring, and service-centered culture in our district.
Theresa Scott, RSP Technician at Washington Elementary, brings joy and dedication to her campus every day. With her background as both an instructional aide and RSP tech, she consistently puts the needs of students first. Theresa’s warm smile and servant’s heart make her a beloved presence among staff, students, and families alike.
Jenae Padilla, School Secretary at T.L. Reed, is the welcoming face of the school’s front office. Known for her efficiency, kindness, and upbeat attitude, Jenae supports students, staff, and families with a level of care that truly makes a difference. Her calm, helpful presence helps create a school environment where everyone feels respected and supported.
Josefina Alanis, Family Connections Technician at Jefferson Elementary, goes above and beyond in her support of students and families. She plays a key role in coordinating English Learner testing and steps in wherever help is needed. Josefina’s ability to build strong connections with parents, along with her leadership in parenting and citizenship classes, has had a lasting impact on the school community. Her dedication, teamwork, and compassion shine in everything she does.
These recognitions are part of Kings Canyon Unified’s ongoing commitment to a customer service culture where all educational partners—students, families, staff, and community members—are respected, valued, and heard.
