Hillcrest E-TECH Newsletter
January 2025

From the Desk of Ms. Ulloa
Happy New Year, E-TECH! I hope this year brings peace, joy, and happiness to you. As we embark on our second semester, it is important that we keep the lines of communication open regarding what is happening at Hillcrest E-TECH. Please read below for information on student grades, attendance, tardies, and dress code.
Student Grades
If you have not already looked on PowerSchool to view student grades, you will receive a copy of the report card on January 24, 2025. Next week is our Parent Teacher Conference Night on Thursday, Jan. 30th, from 4:45 pm to 7:45 pm. As you review your
student's performance for the first half of the academic year, I ask that you speak with your child and discuss the following questions:
Are you satisfied with your academic performance?
Did you complete all the work that was assigned to you?
Have you taken advantage of the help offered by your teachers such as tutorials, opportunities to make up work, and opportunities to retake tests?
Did you check eCampus/BrightSpace on a daily basis for college class information?
For any student who failed a high school class, use this formula to set you GOAL for Semester 2: 140 - X (S1 grade) = Y (S2 graded needed to pass for the year). Earning a 70% or higher for the year gives you the credit for that course.
- If you are not satisfied, what do you plan to do differently this semester?
Attendance
If your child has missed five or more days in any particular class, he/she must complete
Attendance for Credit Restoration for each of those classes. You may view attendance in PowerSchool. Please see the body of the newsletter for further information.
Tardies
For students who are not making it to class on time, a tardy is issued. Once a student has eight tardies, detention is assigned. Students must attend detention either during lunch or after school. Please have a conversation with your student about getting to class on time.
Dress Code (9th/10th)
During the interview process of becoming an E-TECH student, all families were advised that students are required to wear a uniform. Students are asked to wear their E-TECH uniform on Monday and Wednesday with a spirit shirt on Friday. Please see the dress code requirements on the E-TECH website. For school safety, the student ID badge and clear/mesh backpacks are also a part of the dress code policy. Students traveling to Richland must have BOTH their Hillcrest ID Badge and their Dallas College ID Badge.
We have done our best to put systems in place to help all students be successful. Any student not having success will be scheduled in a Peer Assistance Leadership class so that they have an opportunity during the school day to complete ALL assignments, ask questions, and get help with coursework. Teachers have made themselves available, some during lunch, others for tutoring. Parents of 9th graders failing more than two classes received three-week updates on their student's progress. We have a weekly progress monitoring check for the college classes in an effort to provide support for struggling students. The changes and additions are working, but we still need the support of our parents. Together, we can ensure the success of our students.
We appreciate your continued support. As always, we are just a phone call/email away.
