Key Items
- School spotlights are underway for the year, starting with Charles Huber Elementary. Mrs. Krach and Mrs. Blaine highlighted student achievement and improvements on various aspects of the state report card, as well as building culture initiatives. View the presentation.
- The Curriculum and Instruction department provided an overview of the district state report card, including a deeper look at progress/growth/improvement in many key areas. The focus on student data, instructional practice, and our “hedgehog focus” on improving student achievement highlighted the continuous improvement model laid out in the district strategic plan. View the presentation.
- Secondary Curriculum Supervisor Sean Kiriakis showcased the Ohio CTE Grant received for Wayne High School, totaling just over $2 million. The grant will be used to renovate the current engineering class and an additional space in the CTE wing of WHS for a second engineering lab, housing robotic equipment, 3-D printers, and other engineering/manufacturing equipment. Prodigy will serve as the renovation supervisor, with work scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2025. View the presentation.
- The proposed 2025-2026 district calendar was presented to the Board and community. Factors such as contractual requirements, district professional development needs, semester equity, and staff preferences are accounted for during the construction of the calendar. View the proposed calendar. This calendar option will be requested for approval at the November Board meeting.
- The Board adopted a resolution proclaiming October 21-25 National School Bus Safety Week and shared gratitude/appreciation for the work of our entire transportation department.
- Following the Policy Committee recommendation, the Board approved a revision to Policy IGBB - Programs for Students Who Are Gifted. This policy revision aligns our district policy to ODEW and reduces the number of assessments required by policy.
- The Board had a first reading of 21 new and revised policies provided by OSBA’s quarter update, reflecting changes in law that have taken place.
- The Board approved a number of personnel items, which include welcoming Courtney Eynon to the district office Reception/Assistant Registrar position (currently secretary at Rushmore Elementary) and Wendy Barhorst to the Public Relations Supervisor/Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent (currently a part-time contracted communications supervisor through the Montgomery County ESC).
Superintendent Update
Mr. Enix provided a progress update on the redistricting project in HHCS. The two map options created are still available for public review on HHCSredistricting.com, as well as the feedback form collecting input from the community. The Board will host a Public Information Session during the regularly scheduled work session on Thursday, October 24, at 6 p.m. in the Studebaker Board Room. During the session, Cropper GIS will present an update on the project, map, and data review, and provide plot maps for review. The Board of Education will be available to interact with the community during the session.
A follow-up review of the internal population and enrollment study was also provided, highlighting our district enrollment, subgroup numbers, and how an increased trend in those subgroups provides a backbone for future staffing and resource planning for HHCS.
View Mr. Enix’s presentation.
