Little Trojan News
Centerburg Elementary Newsletter - August 2024
From the Principal - Mr. Thompson
Welcome Back to School! My Vision for our school is to provide a fun, safe, caring, and challenging environment for learning for staff, students, and parents.
Please check PowerSchool often to keep informed of you child's progress in each of his/her classes. If you need help logging in to PowerSchool, please contact the school.
Illness
Students with a fever(temperature of 100°F or higher) will be sent home and should stay home at least 24 hours after their fever is gone without the use of fever-reducing medicines.
Cellphones and SmartWatches
The staff at Centerburg Elementary School is dedicated to creating positive learning environments for our students. Personal Communication Devices (PCDs) often disrupt instructional time for our
students. For this reason, classrooms are cell phone and smart watch free. Students need to turn them off and store them in their backpacks until the end of the day.
Ohio law now requires all schools to adopt a policy governing the use of cell phones by students
during school hours. The policy states:
Students may use PCDs before and after school, during their lunch break, in between classes as
long as they do not create a distraction, disruption or otherwise interfere with the educational
environment, during after school activities (e.g., extra-curricular activities), or at school-related
functions. Use of PCDs, except those approved by a teacher or administrator, at any other time is
prohibited and they must be powered completely off (i.e., not just placed into vibrate or silent
mode) and stored out of sight.
Attendance
If your child is going to be absent or if you need to change the way your child is going home, please email attendance.el@centerburgschools.org. The secretaries will be
checking it throughout the school day.
I encourage you to make sure your student is in school. Attendance is critical to students' success. Students who are consistently in school have better grades and do better on local, state, and national tests. It is important that parents and schools work together to make sure every child is in school. See below for an infographic on attendance.
Let's make it a great year!
