The month of March is upon us. We have just a few more weeks before spring launches and announces that we are coming close to the end of our school year. As I continue to share, the school year is moving quickly, and staff and students are very busy with preparation to make sure our students are ready for the next grade level. Our sights are definitely set on a razor-sharp focus on all that needs to be accomplished in these last three months of the school year.
This edition of The BLAST is concentrated on some important upcoming dates that will be significant as we enter into this last quarter of the school year. As we say good-bye to February 2022, and hello to March, may we all remember what is important as we serve as role models for our youth. May we demonstrate empathy, kindness, and respect toward one another. In our world there is a lot of turmoil that is occurring, yet despite differences of opinion over a variety of issues, we can show our students that disagreement can still be met with civility. I wish everyone a great week and remain hopeful for the future.
In partnership,
Dr. Terri Daniels

WEEK OF MARCH 14-18, NIGHTMARE ON PUBERTY STREET
The Virtual Program
Nightmare on Puberty St. is an age-appropriate web series about four middle school students on their journey through adolescence. As the characters wrestle with the question “Am I normal?” they learn to cope with the changes affecting their bodies and minds. The frank and sometimes funny program shows students how to cope with many of the issues of puberty, including how to handle pressure to be sexually active, how to build self-esteem, and where to find help if faced with feelings of depression or thoughts of suicide. After the web series and a follow-up livestreamed workshop, students will understand everyone goes through changes during puberty, and there are resources to help them adjust to those changes.
Nightmare on Puberty St. was created in conjunction with physicians, teachers, licensed counselors, and parents. The performer/educators providing the program receive extensive initial training from doctors and licensed counselors. They also receive continuing training that incorporates updated information as it becomes available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, the Kaiser Family Foundation, and health care providers.
Students will view this presentation in their English class during the scheduled week. To access the website to review the Parent Guide of the program please access the link below:
****Parents who do NOT wish for their child to participate in the virtual presentation will need to notify your child’s counselor to opt them out of this presentation.
8th Grade Promotion: There WILL be an in-person promotion this year and more details will be shared VERY SOON about the event…..Please stay tuned……

CONGRATULATIONS TO MS. SIEVERS!
On Thursday, February 24th, Ms. Sievers was honored by Folsom Rotary Club to receive a $500 grant for use in her PLTW classroom. She and her students have worked hard to reset up the Fabrication Room and are excited to be able to use it in developing some student-generated innovation projects.
We are Jaguar proud of Ms. Sievers and what she is bringing to our Project Lead the Way Engineering classroom. Thank you, Ms. Sievers. Way to Go!
PARKING LOT ISSUES
This is a FRIENDLY REMINDER:
We are well aware of the parking challenges at Folsom Middle School. We are excited to begin the FMS modernization project this coming summer. However, until our parking lot is updated, we must ALL remember that safety in the parking lot is of utmost importance.
We have 1350 students, all who are dismissed at the same time. We ask parents to be courteous and safe when picking up students. Please follow the safety regulations and be aware of the challenges we face when our parking lot is full.
The parking lot by the church is for BUSSES, STAFF, AND PARENTS OF OUR SPED STUDENTS ONLY. Staff is continuously having to tell parents that this parking lot is not for student pick up or drop off. Please help us out by NOT using this parking lot for this purpose. We apologize for the inconvenience, but it is necessary for all of us to work together for the safety of all.
Thank you for adhering to the parking lot safety rules.

UPCOMING SART (SCHOOL ATTENDANCE REVIEW TEAM) ZOOM MEETING
Parents, if you received an email with the zoom link requiring you to attend the SART meeting on Wednesday, March 2nd at 5:00 p.m. it is extremely important you sign into this meeting to clear the alert that is on your child’s attendance record tracked by the state of California. California monitors truancy as well as chronic absenteeism on all students within the state. Consequences for students deemed as a truant or chronic absentee falls on parents and it is extremely important to meet the obligations deemed necessary through California Education Code (the law).
We know this year has been an exceptional year due to COVID and quarantine regulations within the state, but we are still required to meet the obligations of California Ed. Code. If you received the email and have questions regarding this mandated meeting, please contact Dr. Daniels at the school office or email her at tdaniels@fcusd.org.
END OF QUARTER 3: MARCH 11, 2022
The first half of semester 2 is quickly coming to an end. The 3rd quarter of the school year will end on Friday, March 11. Please note this is the time that quarter grades will be frozen in the grade book and serve as a progress report to parents. We will not be mailing home progress report grades so it will be necessary for parents to review your child’s grades in PowerSchool after March 11th to determine how well they are doing in their classes at that time.
Progress Reports indicate if your child is on the right track with their assignments or if they need to buckle down to devote extra attention to their studies for the remainder of the semester to get their grades improved. Please discuss this with your child so they realize the importance of reviewing their grades at this time.
**STUDENTS WHO DO NOT PASS ENGLISH AND/OR MATH WILL BE REQUIRED TO ATTEND SUMMER SCHOOL THIS YEAR. SUMMER SCHOOL FOR FMS STUDENTS WILL BE HELD AT SUTTER MIDDLE SCHOOL DURING THE WEEKS OF: JUNE 6-24, 2022. FOR MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR CHILD’S COUNSELOR.

ECHELON CATAPULT NEWS
Who or What is Echelon Catapult?
We are Echelon Catapult, a team composed of High School students from the Greater Sacramento area and sponsored by the Aerospace Museum of California. We met while working together on various cybersecurity and computer science competitions and found ourselves wanting to share our knowledge with a broader community. Soon afterwards, local middle-schoolers joined us online and we walked them through competition-like questions. Using a student-teaching student method of education, our team has stayed dedicated to giving our 800+ students an exceptional opportunity to develop a passion for STEM through our 20+ courses since April 2020. For more information, please visit our website at www.echeloncatapult.org or email us at team@echeloncatapult.org.
Please see the link below for the upcoming free course for students in Grades 3-8. New courses will begin this week.
