The Roderick Review
November 2024
November Announcements
As we enter November, I want to take a moment to reflect on our journey together throughout the 2024-2025 school year. I am grateful for the continued support and engagement from each of you, which plays a vital role in our students’ success.
This month, we have many exciting events lined up, including parent-teacher conferences and our Thanksgiving celebration. These gatherings provide wonderful opportunities to connect, share, and celebrate the progress our students are making.
I also want to highlight our recent recognition as a 2024 DESE School of Recognition. This achievement is a testament to the hard work of our dedicated staff and the resilience of our students. We are proud of this accomplishment and committed to continuing our efforts in fostering a supportive and enriching learning environment at the Roderick School.
Wishing you and your families a joyful and restful Thanksgiving season!
All the best,
Dr. Kevin Martes
Principal

Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences
Fall parent-teacher conferences to discuss your child's progress are scheduled for the afternoon of Wednesday, November 20 and evening of Thursday, November 21. Your child’s teacher will contact you directly about setting up your conference.
We believe that educational objectives are best achieved when there is a strong home-school relationship. This relationship is dependent upon effective communication. It is essential that the teacher have a clear knowledge and understanding of what happens to the child in the home; likewise, it is necessary that the parent be aware of the role of the school and its influence on the child's development. One of the best means of establishing effective home-school relationships is the parent-teacher conference.
Your child’s teacher will discuss the Learning Focus Areas that have been taught in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies since September. These summaries will be sent to families the week before parent-teacher conferences and posted to the WPS website.
Conferences will focus on the following topics:
Strengths of your child in school.
Areas for growth over the next few months.
Focus areas taught this fall in ELA, math, science and social studies.
Preview of new skills and concepts that will be taught in the near future.
Since a successful parent-teacher conference is a joint enterprise, we ask that you are prepared to discuss the following information at the conference:
Your child's behavior at home.
Your child’s feelings about school.
Your child’s health habits, including eating, sleeping and general disposition.
Use of time out of school, including play, reading, study habits, screen time, hobbies and interests.
Relationship with parents, other members of the family, friends, and neighbors.
Questions you may want to ask about your child and his/her progress.
Suggestions which would help the teacher work more effectively with your child.
We know that preparation on both our parts will help us reach our mutual objective of a high level of communication and a high level of understanding.
Special subject teachers, special education teachers, and curriculum specialists will be available for drop in conferences during both conference days.
Please reach out to us with any questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming parent-teacher conferences.
