The Ludwig Ledger
January 2025
Dear Ludwig Families,
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of our students and staff back from winter break. I hope everyone had time to disconnect from the daily grind, recharge, and make some wonderful memories with family and friends during the holidays. Here’s to a healthy and happy 2025!
As we look ahead on the calendar, there are lots of events to be excited about! In the coming weeks and months, be on the lookout for more information to be released about this year's St. Baldrick's Podcast-a-Thon and Open Gym Social, Ludwig's Career Day, Ludwig's Variety Show, the 4th Grade Musical, Choir/Band Concerts, and our Family Night. Add in our yearly IAR state testing (April) and ISA testing for 5th graders (March), and the second half year is certainly going to fly by.
In addition to a wide range of extracurricular programming, we're looking forward to continuing to challenge our students academically in the new year. With the continued use of best instructional practices, rigorous and relevant learning experiences, and the infusion of meaningful technology usage at school will not only help us prepare our students for success this year, but for many years to come. We know our students are up for the challenge and, as always, we appreciate your support in your child's educational journey.
That said, please continue to remain in contact with your child's teacher regarding his/her academic progress during the second semester. The Ludwig Virtual Backpack is a great way to remain in the loop with events happening across the district, and our FaceBook page continues to highlight happenings at the school. As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or Ludwig's main office.
Sincerely,
Mr. Kulik

Please encourage your child to get a good night sleep and eat a healthy breakfast before coming to school on these testing days. Also, please ensure they bring their fully charged iPad back to school each morning.
We look forward to celebrating all of our students' accomplishments and growth on these assessments, from the beginning of the year. Our classroom teachers and support service providers will meet after the testing window has concluded to ensure all students are receiving the appropriate instruction and supports here at school. FastBridge Parent Reports will be made available to families, after the conclusion of testing.
ACCESS Testing for English Language Learners
Ludwig's EL teacher, Mrs. Natalie Nelson, will be administering this year's ACCESS test to all of Ludwig's EL students during the window of January 21st - January 28th. The results from the ACCESS test will be used to help our staff make decisions about how to best facilitate our students' English academic language development. Students' scores reflect proficiency levels ranging from Level 1 (Entering) to Level 6 (Reaching).
Test scores can be used for a variety of purposes:
1) As benchmarks against which educators can measure future performance.2) For accountability purposes.
3) As a measure to make reclassification decisions about whether a student can exit English language support services.
4) To support decisions about placing students into appropriate classes or groups for instruction and instructional planning.
5) To show the progress students have made.
If your child receives EL services and you have questions about the ACCESS test, results, or score reports (when available) please don't hesitate to reach out to Mrs. Nelson.
