Counselor's Corner
Hello GLE Families,
I hope everyone is into a good routine and your year is off to a good start. This week I am visiting all K-2nd grade classrooms and we are discussing feelings and how to cope with negative feelings through relaxation, distraction, and movement. Every classroom was given a feelings chart to help identify feelings as well as a picture chart with calming strategies. We practiced naming our feelings as well as choosing calming strategies that work best for each child. Ask your child/children what they learned this week in guidance.
Blessings in a Backpack:
Blessings in a Backpack were sent home for the first time Friday, August 23rd with all students who qualified and whose parents registered them to receive one weekly. If your child/children did not receive theirs or if you changed your mind and do not want your child to receive one, please let me know.
Mentor Mii:
We are still in need of mentors for our students. If you or someone you know is interested, please let me know.
The mentor program starts next week. If your child has a mentor, they will meet with them on the same day as last year, during their lunchtime. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Parent Permission:
Thank you to all parents who sign and returned the permission form for the safe and unsafe touch guidance lesson. There are still a few in each class who have not returned their form. Additional forms were sent home with students who had not returned theirs. Please be sure to complete and sign the form for your child. If you did not receive a form, let me know and I will give you one.
I wish you well,

Student Insurance - Optional
If your student needs insurance, here is the information. This is not required, only optional.
School Treats
Dear parents/guardians:
Food allergies, intolerances and other dietary-related medical conditions are a growing concern for our schools. Children who are affected can suffer a severe or even fatal reaction if they eat or come into contact with food that they are allergic to, and there are other children who can have life altering medical issues if they consume certain foods.
For the safety of these students, we are encouraging parents to celebrate birthdays and other occasions with non-food items such as stickers, pencils, themed erasers, or other trinkets, rather than food. If a special arrangement is made for a classroom party, any food that is sent in to share with students should be pre-packaged and contain an ingredient label AND must be approved beforehand.
Thank you in advance for making the class environment a safe and healthy place for the students. By working together, we can make a difference for our children!
Kind regards,
Sherry Stanfield, RN, BSN
