Updates to the Third Grade Reading Guarantee Guidance Manual
An updated version of the Third Grade Reading Guarantee guidance manual is now available on the Department’s website. The manual includes the most recent updates regarding the Reading Diagnostic, RIMPS, High-Dosage Tutoring, and Promotion/Exemption. Please send questions about the manual to ThirdGradeGuarantee@education.ohio.gov.
Pre-K General Education Teachers Now Eligible for Stipend Reimbursement
A recent change in Ohio law now allows pre-kindergarten general education teachers to be eligible for stipend reimbursement for completing the Department’s Science of Reading professional development course. The target audience for Pathway G includes pre-kindergarten general education teachers. For information about Pathway G, and to download a copy of the July 2024 updated Guidance Document for the Science of Reading Professional Development Requirements please see the Department’s Science of Reading Professional Development webpage.
Approved List of Reading Intervention Programs
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce has added materials to the approved list of reading intervention programs. The Department’s list of approved reading intervention program materials includes all submitted materials that met the required criteria.
Information regarding timeline updates and supports for districts and schools in selecting materials is available on the Department’s website.
Questions regarding requirements for high-quality instructional materials in English language arts may be sent to ReadOhio@education.ohio.gov.
SST1 Sponsored PD Opportunities
Writing Reading Improvement and Monitoring Plans at the Intermediate Level
Participants will gain an understanding of the legal requirements for RIMPs, with an emphasis on data analysis to identify each student's unique needs. Participants will learn how to tailor interventions accordingly, monitor implementation by educators, track student progress, and adjust strategies to ensure accelerated gains for all students. In this Network participants will enhance their literacy efforts and create a supportive sustainable framework for all learners! Designed to integrate literacy programs and meet Ohio's literacy laws, our network supports both educators and students. Participants will receive information on legislative requirements, new curriculum practices, MTSS, assessment strategies, Science of Reading and Dyslexia modules, and leadership pathways.
