Message from the Principal...
🌸Spring into Safety🤠
Dear Perdew Parents,
Spring is soon to arrive! As we welcome the warmer weather, blooming flowers, and longer days, it's also a great time to focus on safety and remember our PBIS guidelines as we move into this lively season. With outdoor activities on the rise let’s remind our Perdew Pioneers to follow important safety tips to keep everyone safe and healthy!
1. Springtime Safety on the Playground As the weather warms, our students will spend more time outside during recess and P.E.. It's important for everyone to play safely on our playground. Here are some tips to remind your student of:
- Always use equipment the way it’s meant to be used.
- Running or playing tag is not allowed around the play structures.
- Don’t push or shove; be gentle with your friends while playing at recess and P.E..
- Do not run across our hard court areas. Students running to games, lunch , and recess time will be asked to go back and walk. Have fun running on our large grassy field area instead.
2. Watch Out for Allergies With the arrival of spring, many plants start to bloom, which means allergy season is in full swing! For students with allergies, it’s a good idea to:
- Keep tissues handy and wash hands frequently to reduce pollen exposure.
- Take allergy medication as directed by your doctor.
- Let teachers and staff know if you’re feeling uncomfortable, so we can help you stay healthy and focused.
3. Stay Hydrated As the days get warmer, it's essential to stay hydrated. Bring a water bottle to school and drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay energized and focused. Staying hydrated helps you think clearly and feel your best!
4. Pedestrian and Bike Safety With more students walking and biking to school as the weather improves, we want to remind everyone to follow these important safety guidelines:
- Pedestrians: Do not cross from the parking lot center divider to our school sidewalk during drop-off and pick-up time without using the crosswalk as traffic flows quickly through here. Walk on school sidewalks whenever possible, and be aware of traffic.
- Bikers/Scooters: Wear a helmet every time you ride to school. Be sure to check that your bike or scooter is in good condition. Bikes need fully inflated tires and working brakes.
5. Sunscreen and Sun Safety The California sun is shining brighter and the days are getting longer, which makes it a great time to talk about protecting our skin from harmful UV rays:
- Wear sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher before going outside, and reapply as needed.
- Wear a hat or sunglasses for extra protection.
- Take breaks under our solar shade structure on the playground when you’re feeling overheated.
As we enjoy the many wonderful things spring has to offer, let’s also remember that safety is always in season. We look forward to a fun, safe, and healthy month of March at Perdew Elementary!

Birthday Shout Outs!
Perdew Elementary School has implemented a “no food items” approach to celebrating birthdays within the school day. Teachers will acknowledge birthdays in a special way such as a birthday crown, singing happy birthday, allowing a child to share a special book with the class, etc.
You are more than welcome to bring in non-food birthday celebrations items that can easily be distributed at the end of class.
Reasons for this change include health concerns and loss of instructional time. Many of our students have health concerns related to food, including allergies, obesity, diabetes, and sensitivities to dyes.
Thank you for supporting us in our efforts to keep students healthy and maximize learning time at school.
