National Native American (First Nations) Heritage Month
There are over 9 Million Native American and Native Alaskans (First Nations) living in the United States today. In 1830, President Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act which stole the land from the Native People in Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, Florida, and Tennessee to what became Oklahoma. It wasn't until 1924 that Native Americans were granted citizenship under Congress. There are approximately 175 Indigenous languages spoken in the United States today.
National Family Literacy Month
