Dr. Koop's Newsletter
December 6, 2024
Dear KRS families,
The KRS Holiday Shop was a great success because of all of the parent volunteers. Thank you volunteers! It was so much fun to see the look of happiness on the students' faces as they carried their bags full of packages for their loved ones.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Kathy Koop

Spanish
Hola Familias!
As we approach the end of the year, I would like to share all the wonderful things your child has been learning in Spanish class since September! We have been working hard to build foundational language skills while exploring the rich and diverse cultures of the Spanish speaking world. Throughout the semester, students have learned new vocabulary and engaged in fun and interactive activities to reinforce their learning.
We've also celebrated cultural traditions and holidays, providing students with a deeper understanding of the customs and values in Spanish speaking countries. Each lesson is designed to inspire curiosity and encourage students to use Spanish in meaningful ways.
Thank you for supporting your child's learning journey. I look forward to continuing to grow our language skills in the new year.

What is your role at Kings Road School?
I am a Kindergarten Teacher. I have been a Kindergarten teacher at KRS for many years. I love being the first face of KRS and meeting all the new children and families. I started at KRS when Kindergarten was an AM and PM session. I’m thrilled to have a full day program now and have wonderful co-workers to experience it with.
What are your qualifications to serve in your role?
I love being around 5 yr olds and watching them grow right before my eyes. I completely understand how they develop and learn. Being a mom has also taught me to have patience and understanding for the age. I recently earned my Masters in Education at The College of New Jersey to keep myself updated with all the new and exciting developments in education. I am currently continuing my education at TCNJ for my plus 30 acknowledgement.
What do you like about Kings Road School?
One of my favorite things about working at Kings Road School is the amazing staff. I have made solid friendships and relationships with the faculty. We laugh, we cry, and most importantly, we help and support one another in and out of school. I also love the students and watching them grow up from Kindergarten to Fifth grade right before my eyes. The families I have met over the years are also very special to me. They trust me with their children in the classroom and in their homes.
What is your favorite book?
My favorite children’s book to read is Snowmen At Night by Caralyn Buehner. It is a fun fiction story about snowmen that come alive at night and have adventures. I read it every December and tie in a creative writing activity for my students.
My favorite adult book is anything written by Elin Hilderbrand. I really only read in the summer for enjoyment. I love the setting of all her books and can imagine them perfectly in my mind.
One of my goals is to write a simple children’s story. I see and understand what children enjoy, laugh at and learn from. I have a few ideas…..
What do you like to do when you are not at Kings Road School?
Being with my children (22 and 19) is my favorite! Making them dinner, watching movies and playing games is complete HAPPINESS and JOY to me.
As a hobby, I love to find old furniture on the side of the road, take them home and refurbish them. I have a few pieces in my classroom and in my home. I love to decorate my house. It’s an ongoing, never ending process.
Outdoor or Indoor Recess?
Even during cold winter days, we will be going outside for recess throughout the school year.
Indoor recess occurs only if the temperature (including the wind chill factor) and/or the play area is unsafe because of the weather conditions. The wind forecast is also considered. Please make sure that your child is prepared to play in cold weather. Thank you!
Responsible Digital Citizenship
At school, responsible digital citizenship is discussed throughout the school year. At home, please continue to monitor your child's devices. If your child is participating in phone text message chains, please make sure that your are monitoring the messages for content appropriateness.
