Week of March 27- New Information
It has been a great 3rd quarter. We hope you enjoyed the week and did something fun with your child. Everyone has worked so hard this year and it was a perfect time for a break. We will be on the home stretch when we return on March 27th.
- ELPA Testing (English Language Proficiency Assessment) for students who are in the ESL program went great. Students worked so hard! We can't wait to see how great they did!
- The hygiene drive was a huge success! Thank you for donating last week.
- We need your help! The back parking lot gets extra crowded in the mornings with buses, pre-k and CBI drop off. Please do not park in the handicapped spots with our a handicapped permit. We have families with permits and use these spots.

Purchase your tickets online today! Tickets can be purchased at byepta.myschoolcentral.com. Wear your favorite disco or party outfit. An individual ticket is $5 or a family ticket is $20. The dance will be April 7 from 6-8pm. Purchase tickets in advance to help us plan better for the event.
5th Grade- Shhhhhh! It's a secret:)
Update: We only need a few more things. Sign up today!
5th-grade teachers have created some fun learning activities for the last few weeks before state testing. The purpose is to make learning fun, keep it positive, and share test taking strategies. This year the theme will be "Slam the Exam" and will be basketball related. We would love for you to shop our Amazon wish list and help us make these surprise weeks happen.
We have a new CSSO!
We are very excited to welcome our new CSSO (Commissioned School Security Officer). "My name is TJ Houk and I have recently joined the Springdale School District as a CSSO. I'm excited to work at Young Elementary because I want to help the community that raised me feel safe and protected."
Please welcome him when you see him.
Tips from the Counselor- Self Esteem
Of all the things we help our children with, helping them to develop a healthy self-esteem is probably most important. This is because self-esteem affects all aspects of their lives – how they learn, how they interact with friends, how they treat others, how they problem solve, how they handle adversity, and how willing they are to try new things. Self esteem is our beliefs about our self, how capable and loved we feel. It is our shield against life's challenges. Here are some tips to help your child develop healthy self-esteem.
Praise your child- Notice when your child has done something well and tell them!
Validate their feelings- If your child gets a blow to their self-esteem, they need you to allow them to feel sad, hurt, or mad. Afterwards, you can boost them up with positives.
Avoid harmful comparisons- Don’t compare your child to others. Let your child know that it’s okay to be different, and that you don’t expect perfection.
Give your child chores- Children learn how to function in groups by learning how their own family cooperates. Set your child up to be a team player by giving age-appropriate chores at home. Offer praise for their work!
Spend time with your child- Your children know how busy you are, so when you find 10 minutes to listen about their day or play a game, they will feel worthy and loved. The gift of time spent is worth much more than the gift of money spent.
