HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
DIVERSITY NIGHT
WMS and WHS collaborated to celebrate the third annual Diversity Night on April 17th! Students, families, staff, and community members gathered to share food and stories from our many diverse cultures, listen to music, and learn about school clubs and community organizations. Thank you to all who came out to make this such a fun evening!
STEM NIGHT
On Tuesday, Watertown Public Schools and the Watertown Business Coalition hosted the first annual Community STEM Night at the middle school, drawing more than 150 community members. The evening showcased the talent and creativity of students and local organizations through a wide variety of hands-on exhibits and demonstrations. Guests enjoyed flatbreads and cookies made by WHS Culinary Arts students, watched the 2025 FIRST Robotics competition robot in action, and explored live chemistry experiments led by WHS students. Attendees also tried out computer programming activities, received health screenings at the WHS Medical Assisting Wellness Clinic, and toured the Career and Technical Education classrooms.
A highlight of the evening was a looping video produced by WCATV, featuring updates on the new Watertown High School, profiles of area biotech companies, and footage of the FIRST Robotics team in action. The event also featured engaging presentations by Ai3 Architects and Vertex Engineering on the sustainable design of the new high school. Additional participants included WHS CoLAB STEM Career Collaboration, WHS Women in STEM Club, Sai Life Sciences, MassBay Community College, AddGene, and the Watertown Free Public Library.
The event was a true celebration of innovation, collaboration, and the power of STEM education in our community. Thank you to everyone who was involved in the planning and execution of the event and to all of our collaborating teams for joining us!
ACRIVON THERAPEUTICS TRIP
LADDER SAFETY & OVERHEAD WORK TRAINING
Students in Mr. Poillucci's Construction Technology II and III classes recently completed Step Ladder Safety training, provided by the American Ladder Institute, as well as Overhead Work training. Working overhead requires the use of hard hats and our students were outfitted with the appropriate hard hat protection with proper fittings for the work they are completing. Teams in these classes have completed their residential wall framing project and are shifting their focus to ceiling framing and how electric and plumbing systems are distributed within a house depending on the specific requirements of different rooms. Great job and congratulations to all of the students!
SPECIAL GUEST OFFICER KELLEY
On Wednesday, April 2nd, School Resource Officer Kerry Kelley joined Mr. Riley’s Public Speaking class. Students treated the class as a “press conference” with everyone being required to ask at least one question. Officer Kelley spoke about her career path, the dos and don’ts, and gave important information about her job in the community. Thank you Officer Kelley!
EARTH UNLIMITED VISIT
On Thursday, April 10th, two zookeepers from Southwick's Zoo EARTH Unlimited Program visited the ELL Level 1 Science Class. The zookeepers introduced five different animals to the students - a ball python, a blue-tongued skink, a three-banded armadillo, a ferret, and a skunk. The staff members talked about animal adaptations and habitats with the students. Students had the opportunity to ask questions, observe the animals up close, and pet several of them. Thank you to the Watertown Community Foundation for funding this program!
