ELEMENTARY INFORMATION
Note from our Elementary Principals
Parents,
It has been another awesome week here at the Elementary. Last night’s Princess Ball was nothing short of magical! Seeing our students twirling in their beautiful dresses, hand-in-hand with their proud dads, father figures, or other cherished adults was priceless. Something we’ll hold on to for years to come. This event was one reason why our school is so special!
Events like this takes many people working together and we want to give thanks and appreciation to the incredible people who made the evening so unforgettable:
Vice Principal Stoney for her incredible leadership and attention to detail. She is absolutely amazing!!
Our dedicated Parent Council for jumping in and supporting us every step of the way with this event– helping with decorations, providing refreshments, and setting up.
Our maintenance rockstars, John and Brandon, who made sure we had all the tables, chairs, and things that we needed to make this event so amazing!
An amazing teacher, Miss Nikki Hill, for dressing in a beautiful princess gown, welcoming our families in and explaining our night. She always spends so much time supporting these events and our school.
Another amazing teacher, Mrs. Shelly Graham, and her amazing husband for going above and beyond with setup and decorations.
Ms. Malea Simmons and Mrs. Hellen Jackson whose hard work with preparing center pieces and set up brought everything together so smoothly.
Mrs. Lindy Johnson, Mrs. CeAnn Whitehead, Mrs. Emily Brough, Mrs. Estefany Rosenbaum, Mrs. Amanda Bright and others for donating items to our event.
A very special shoutout to our high school students who came dressed as princesses and a prince! Their presence made many of your young students’ dreams come true!
We hope that this night provided everyone with special memories that will last a lifetime. Gerber Photo and Film, the photographer/ DJ team that we hired, are currently preparing the photos taken last night and will send those to us. We will then make sure each family gets their photos before the end of the school year. If you have any pictures you’d be willing to share on social media, please use the #alaprincessball and @ala_charter so we can see them too! We had such a great time and a great way to end our last Parent Engagement Night for this school year. Thank you parents for all your support!!!
RUN CLUB
This was our last week of Run Club! A huge shout out to Janey Hjelmstad for bringing up this idea and organizing it. We love seeing our parents involved and wanting to help create activities/events for our students to enjoy. The Run Club was a huge success and we were excited to see how many students wanted to participate. Parents, thank you for encouraging and allowing your students to join and run their hearts out! We also appreciate all the parents' help to make this successful. Many of you helped with giving the kids their beads whenever they ran miles, helped make sure they crossed the road safely, or helped set up/take down each time. Our celebration day yesterday wouldn't have happened if parents like you didn’t volunteer to help with the obstacle courses. We are so grateful for all you do to help make these memorable events and activities happen. Please enjoy a few pictures of the excitement around the Run Club celebration.
More exciting news!! Earlier this year, our English Language Learners demonstrated their language proficiency on the WIDA Access assessment. We received scores from this test on Thursday. We're proud of our students' performance, especially of the tremendous growth exhibited by many students. Additionally, we're happy to announce that 15 students will be exiting the ESL program as a result of their scores. Well Done, students!
As we head into the weekend, we want to say thank you!! You are a big part of what makes our school such a special place. We want to shout out all of our amazing teachers and staff. While few names were highlighted for helping with specific events this week, the truth is every single one or our teachers and staff go above and beyond for our students day in and day out. We are grateful for the heart and hustle and love they bring to our school!!!
We are so proud of our students, our staff and very grateful for you as parents for all the heart you put into making ALA Elementary the best place!! Have a great weekend!!

SECONDARY INFORMATION
Note from our Principal - Amanda Kuhnz
ALA Families,
As we enter the final weeks of the school year, I want to take a moment to express just how proud we are of every single student at our school. You've worked hard, shown resilience, and grown in ways both seen and unseen. Your dedication to your studies, your friendships, and your goals is something to be celebrated. We have seen this in our recent Student Government campaigns, Rise and Aspire+ testing, Fine Arts performances, Boys Soccer going to 2nd round of State, and all of the other after school activities and efforts that students are involved in.
At the heart of our school community is a deep sense of purpose and pride—not just in our academic achievements, but in the values we carry. As Americans, we share a commitment to perseverance, responsibility, and unity. Patriotism isn't just about flags and holidays—it's about working hard, respecting others, and striving to be the best versions of ourselves, every day. That spirit shines brightly in each of you. This was especially evident in Encore's most recent tribute by their Seniors! They acknowledged the impact their mothers have had on them - it was special! Thank you, Mr. Lee!
Let’s finish this year strong, with that same pride and purpose. Your future is bright, and it’s built on the strong foundation you’re creating right now. Keep showing up, keep giving your best, and know that we are cheering you on every step of the way.

Spoon Assassin (Debate Team) Fundraiser
SPOON ASSASSIN
The Ultimate Battle of Wits and Speed
Game Dates:
Starts: Thursday, May 15th at 4:00 pm
Ends: Tuesday, May 20th at 4:00 pm
What is Spoon Assassin?
Spoon Assassin is a thrilling game where your mission is to eliminate your target while avoiding being eliminated yourself. You’ll be assigned a target, and your goal is to tag them with your spoon (remember: no thrown spoons!). But beware, there’s always someone after you!
The Rules:
Your Target:
You’ll be given the name of your target to eliminate.
Eliminating Your Target:
You can only tag your target with the scoop end of your spoon—no throwing allowed! Don’t hurt anyone or damage property in the process. The spoon must be in your hand.
Protecting Yourself:
If you learn who’s after you, run and hide! You can’t wear a mask or cover your face.
Safe Zones:
Certain places are “safe zones,” where you can’t be tagged:
Classrooms
Bathrooms (if your whole body is inside)
Offices and office suites
Official ALA Student Group Meetings (plus 5 minutes before and after)
Places of Work (on or off-campus, if you’re clocked-in)
Logistics:
Pick up your target's spoon in room 225 on Thursday, May 15th.
Carry your spoon at all times until you're eliminated or the game ends.
The game begins at 4:00 pm and assumes anyone who hasn't picked up their target by then has resigned.
If you end up with your own name, please reach out to atalbot@alautah.net and you will be assigned a new spoon.
Elimination Process:
When you eliminate someone, immediately email your victory to atalbot@alautah.net.
Your new target is the one who was assigned to the person you just eliminated.
If you’re eliminated, hand your target’s spoon to the person who tagged you and exit the game with good sportsmanship.
Forced Elimination:
Game organizers can eliminate players for poor sportsmanship, skipping classes, or unsafe behavior.
Final Elimination Challenge:
Date: May 20th, 4:15 pm – 6:30 pm at the ALA Field
Show up by 4:15 pm to participate; latecomers will be disqualified.
The game ends when there is only one victor!
Prizes:
1st Place: $30 Amazon gift card + ultimate bragging rights and the winning spoon.
2nd Place: $30 Amazon gift card for the player who eliminates the most targets.
Get ready, gear up, and may the best assassin win!
Remember, carry your spoon, be stealthy, and don’t get caught!
