The Terrapin Times #6
A Leader in Me School - September 6, 2024
Hello Families,
We had our first student led Friday Flag ceremony today! It was brilliant! We highlighted "being proactive" - pausing before we respond, and focusing on what we can control. The adults on campus are going to celebrate and elevate students who are being proactive throughout the month. At our next Friday Flag we will be giving awards for students showing proactivity. Keep on the lookout for an invitation from your teachers and myself to be honored guests next month from 7:15-7:45am in the MPR. We will have an informal reception where you can have coffee and treats, take a picture with your child, and then stay for the student led Friday Flag!

PUSD Parent Volunteer Guidelines
There are new guidelines for parent volunteers:
What’s new?
Level 1 – at the beginning of each school year, all volunteers must complete a NEW Megan’s Law application (this will need to be done annually moving forward) and have a current TB test on file.
Level 2 - parents wanting to chaperone field trips must be Level 1 cleared first, then apply for Level 2 clearance. Level 2 volunteers will have significant unsupervised contact with students.
When ready to request Level 2 clearance, volunteers will need a form signed by the principal and then brought to the District Office on:
- Tuesday 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
- Thursday 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
This form will be exchanged for an application and Livescan Fingerprinting Form. Must show picture ID when picking up the form.
- Livescan runs fingerprints through databases of the CA DOJ (CA Department of Justice) and FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigations). There is a $20 cost for the applicant. This is a mandatory requirement for Level 2 volunteers.
The school site will notify applicants once they are approved for each level.
We also have an email created specifically for all things volunteer related: TurtlebackVolunteers@powayusd.com
Please visit the PUSD Volunteer website for more information.
