CASTLE CHRONICLES - OCTOBER 7, 2024
Jäähyväiset! Farewell to our Finnish Friends! 👋
Our Finnish exchange students from Kaurialan Upper Secondary School enjoyed an amazing week in Sandwich attending classes and extracurricular events, experiencing American life with their host families and touring the spectacular sites of Cape Cod. On Sunday, October 6, there were bittersweet tears and hugs as the Finnish students said Jäähyväiset or farewell.... not goodbye(!) because several of our SMHS students will be traveling to visit them in Finland in April 2025.
On Thursday, SMHS students and their Finnish student partners held a showcase event in the SMHS library to proudly present their global sustainability projects to the Finnish American Society of Cape Cod, State Representative Steve Xiarhos, Sandwich School Committee members, Superintendent Maruszczak, students, teachers and other community members.
SMHS is excited and looking forward to continuing this extraordinary partnership with Finland's Kaurialan Upper School in the future so more SMHS students can enjoy such an incredible experience!
WELCOME TO THE NEASC VISITING TEAM!
The New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. (NEASC) is an American educational organization that accredits private and public secondary schools, primarily in New England. This week SMHS is undergoing its decennial accreditation visit. The NEASC visiting team is composed of 8 educators who will be on campus this week observing teaching and learning, and meeting with students and teachers. The visit is collaborative in nature and aims to identify areas of improvement and celebrate successes.
MONEY MOVES: SENIORS GET CREDIT SAVVY AT THE CREDIT FOR LIFE FAIR
On Friday, October 4, 2024, the senior class attended Cape Cod 5's annual CREDIT FOR LIFE FAIR. The fair is a fun, interactive simulation of saving, spending, and budgeting based on career choices and lifestyle decisions. SMHS's longstanding partnership with Cape Cod 5 has played an integral part in preparing students for life after high school with the essential practice of navigating financial obligations versus choices and understanding the economic impact both have in their lifestyle.
