Free YA Audiobooks - All Summer Long

Once again, AudioFile Sync is offering free YA (Young Adult) audiobooks all summer long.


Each week, Sync offers 2 free audiobooks. Patrons can use the Sora app on their phone to access the books. For information on how to register, go to the Audiofile Magazine website.

What's up in the Library Media Center?

9th Grade Social Studies & Project Based Learning

The 9th grade social studies classes are ending the year with project based learning. Students were given a world event to research, develop a display, make a portion interactive, and then present their findings to peers, students from other classes, and invited guests.


Students worked in the classroom for the first portion of the project; for the final stages, they utilized the library for work space, resources, and then for final presentations. A variety of interactive displays were placed throughout the space, some requiring technology and some using other creative methods.

Tech Teen Work

Our tech teens have proven themselves an invaluable resource throughout the year. From helping with technology, to creating displays, to helping select resources, these students have taken ownership in the library, and have helped create an environment conducive to both learning and serving student interest.


If you are going into 9th grade next year or know an incoming 8th grader who might be interested in serving in this capacity, please tell them to come see us in the library. We'd love to show them how they can help partner with us to make Southview a student-centered, student-driven hub.

Demon Slayer Series

Our student graphic novels advisory group reviewed a database we sampled for several weeks and determined it didn't quite fit the needs of the students. Rather, they recommended we use the finances to purchase hard copies of this series as well as several stand-alone graphic novels. It's proven to be one of the most popular series in the LMC.

May Book Display

Several different groups of students created the May display. They chose the theme (guess it), selected the books for inclusion, created the materials, and crafted the design.


We have valued the ideas of our student helpers, and the displays throughout the year have been engaging and simply delightful.

Handy Helpers

We purchased some new carts to help make moving items around the library and throughout the building much easier. Rather than waiting for a time when custodial staff could put them together, the tech teens began to assemble them on their own. We now have two carts ready for use!

TECHNOLOGY TIPS & BYTES

Online Library Catalog and MackinVIA eBooks & Audiobooks Reminder

Students need to use the Google option for logging into both of these databases. And students should use the MackinVIA link from the website or type into the URL bar: ankeny.mackinvia.com.

Chromebook Reminder

As the year begins to draw to a close, this is a reminder that students keep their Chromebooks over the summer. Current 9th grade students will turn their Chromebooks in at the high school next fall and get new ones; current 8th grade students will keep theirs throughout their 9th grade year.


If your student needs to turn their Chromebook in at the end of the year and they are not leaving the district, they will need to complete the Opt-out form attached to the Summer Chromebook Letter and submit it to the library by May 27.
