Some Things Stay The Same .... And That's OK
As I left the school the other day, I saw the surefire sign that spring has arrived, chalk art. Every year, as soon as the snow disappears , the chalk art reappears. Of course, right along side it are the many hop scotch boards. Spring has arrived at PPCS! I was on supervision last week and looked around. There were football games, baseball games, soccer games, hopscotch, and students playing catch. It was nice to see the return of these things. As winter drags on (even mild winters like this year) students grow tired of the limitations imposed by the cold and snow. It is wonderful to see them cut loose with the freedom that spring brings. My neighbor growing up, Delphine Slater, used to always look for the crocuses as a sure fire sign of spring. We may not have crocuses, but we have chalk art.
Can You Guess What I Am
Each week, Mr. Mielke will post a pic of a strange object. Submit your answers of what you think it is to ppcs@nesd.ca. All the correct answers will be put into a draw for a weekly prize.
Last weeks item was a game a pogo ball, which I don't think anyone mastered. I am not sure who the winner is this week, stay tuned next week for both winners.
Does anyone remember where you could get these toys?

Bannock Making with Elder Rita
To celebrate her last day with us, Elder Rita made bannock with the K-3 students. Some of the students also helped out by making butter to eat on the bannock. It was delicious, Mr. Mielke taste tested every batch (to make sure it was ok). It was definitely OK!! Thank you, once again, to Elder Rita for sharing your knowledge, time, and talents with us.
Blitzball Recess League
We have purchases a blitzball set. It will be available for the grades K-6 to use at recess to play Blitzball. We will be setting up some teams this week, stay tuned,

The Board Visits PPCS
On Thursday, the NESD Board of Education visited PPCS to hold their meeting, to tour the school, and to see what we do. I was given some time to brag about our school and communities and brag I did. For close to an hour I gave the board a small glimpse of the amazingness that is PPCS and our communities. My main message was that, none of the magic at PPCS happens by chance, it is through the hard work of our students and staff and, of equal importance, the amazing support of our families and community members. The exact quote I used was "...we are so lucky to live in a community that so whole heartedly supports our crazy ideas." The board was very impressed with what we do and with our community as a whole.

Volunteers and Athletes of the Month
Volunteer of the Month
Kylee Lupuliak has been part of the basketball table trio that has held down the fort at almost all the basketball games at our school. Her becoming a minor official is a boost to our school and is greatly appreciated. Kylee was a quick and eager to learn individual who strives to do her job right all the time. Thanks for helping out Kylee.
Athlete of the Month
Logan Smith has been honing his craft on the badminton court and is eager to see some competitions. Logan is a smart player who is obviously strong but his quickness will surprise you. He has been working in practice to get better and be ready for games. Good work Logan.
Athlete of the Month
We will mix it up a bit here and mention 2 grade 12s who have not been athlete of the month this year but have played their last HS basketball. We would like to send off Trayce Mathieu and Jeremy Konchakowski and thank them for their years of dedication to our program. They brought leadership and selflessness to our team by doing what is best for the group even if that means getting thrown into a new position on the fly. The boys gave a great deal of time to Bears Basketball but as a result they leave with an impressive resume of a few league championships and 2 Provincial silver medals that would not have been possible without them. Best of luck in your future guys and thanks for being a part of Bears Athletics.

Check Your Punch Card Balance
Please note, as we get used to this new system, please be aware that punch card balances may be up to 1 week behind.
Once you click the link below and find your child's account number, you will see a number to the left of their account number (i.e. 17). That number will not change, so you only have to remember that number going forward.
We hope that this will help our families.
