Attendance Policy
Beginning this year, all secondary students are allowed parent notes to excuse up to 3 days per semester. For the note to excuse an absence, it must be received with 3 days of the student's return to school. Doctor excuses and other legal reasons are still allowed and should be submitted in a timely manner upon the student's return. After 4 unexcused absences in any class, the student will be in jeopardy of losing credit in that course.
Please see the information below from the handbook regarding excused absences. Please note that parent excuses will count day for day regardless of the time of the absence. If a student checks-in or checks-out and uses a parent note for the excuse, it will count as one of the allowable excuses. Parent notes will not be divided by class blocks.
A Free English for Parents Class will begin on January 14, 2025. This is a class offered to Parents/Guardians of all Gulfport School District students. Mrs. Glenda Cilliers will teach the class on Tuesdays and Thursdays for six weeks. It will be held at Gulfport High School from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
All information is contained on the attached flyer. Please include this in all of your correspondence. Parents/Guardians may register by contacting Mrs. Cilliers at glenda.cilliers@gulfportschools.org.

Mental Health Resources
Being on time to class is important! When students are late to class, they miss valuable information and disrupt the learning environment for others. If students are tardy, they must receive a tardy slip from an administrator or the office. After 3 unexcused tardies in a 9 weeks, the student will receive after-school detention. The first bell rings at 8:20, meaning students are tardy if not in their 1st block by 8:25.
