RAHS Family Bulletin | Oct 24, 2024
News for October 24, 2024
We hope you had a nice long weekend with your students over our fall break. We are finally starting to feel fall weather as our fall sports seasons are coming to an end. The full week here at RAHS has been a positive one with engagement with worms (!!), fun science experiments, and a modified Wednesday / homeroom schedule. Students seem to love watching the RAHS Report and also learned about disability awareness month. Ask them about their favorite homeroom lesson so far.
RAHS Media Center
Students at RAHS have access to a variety of resources as students at RAHS. The Media Center offers all of our RAHS students access to the New York Times digitally. Students that would like to access the times for the first time should go to nytimes.com/passes and register for an account with their email address. After they register, they will be get an email from the new York times. When they click on the link in the email, they have access on their browser to the Times. There is also an app in student’s self-service to access the New York Times.
Why the New York Times? We think it’s a quality publication that covers national topics with depth. Print sources like the New York Times and Minnesota Star-Tribune can be trusted more than other sources because they hire fact checkers and the laws require them to be accurate or face lawsuits. In the age of disinformation it’s really important that our kids stay informed with the truth. It might be good to engage in a conversation with your children about the types of information that they are getting on their social media feed. Nearly all of us see misinformation on a daily basis.
Dear Families,
For those who haven't yet registered this year for iPad insurance, the cost is $30 for the year. This completely covers the first accidental damage (examples: cracked screen, damage from liquids, bent frame, etc.) or theft. A second damaged iPad would carry an additional $50 fee.
Without iPad insurance, any accidental damage to the iPad or iPad theft would lead to family responsibility for the full cost of repair or replacement. If you would like to still sign up for iPad insurance for this year, you can purchase it through the EduTrak system at isd623.org/payonline . Families who qualify for educational benefits are automatically enrolled and covered by iPad Insurance, no further action is needed.
Attention ALL AP students:
If you are planning on taking the AP exam, but have not registered for it yet, you must do that ASAP. Once you create your College Board account and join the class, you must choose YES to take the exam. Last year, the exam was automatically added to your account. This year, it defaults to undecided so you must choose yes or no. If you need assistance, check with your AP teacher. Deadline to register for an AP exam is November 8th. After November 8th, you are charged an additional $40 to make any changes to your AP tests, adding or dropping. There are no refunds after November 8th. We have not started charging yet for the AP exams. We hope to begin about November 1st. More info to follow.
If you are taking an AP class that doesn’t start until 2nd tri, you do not have to register or pay for that exam until 2nd tri. There is a different deadline for those classes. Any questions or problems, please email me at shaween.lawrence@isd623.org

If your child has vomited or has diarrhea, they should stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
If your child had any rash that may be disease-related or the cause is unknown, check with your healthcare provider before sending them back to school.

COVID-19 Guidelines
If you have a respiratory virus (such as COVID-19, Influenza, or RSV):
- Stay home and away from others (including people you live with who are not sick) if you have symptoms that aren't better explained by another cause. These symptoms can include fever, chills, fatigue, cough, runny nose, and headache.
- You can go back to your normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both are true:
- Your symptoms are getting better overall, and
- You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).
- When you go back to your normal activities, we recommend taking added precautions over the next 5 days, such as: practicing enhanced hygiene practices, wearing a well-fitting mask, and/or testing when you will be around other people indoors.
- If you develop a fever or you start to feel worse after you have gone back to normal activities, stay home and away from others again until, for at least 24 hours, both are true: your symptoms are improving overall, and you have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication). Then take added precaution for the next 5 days.
RAHS Attendance
Please report all absences and attendance information to the RAHS Attendance Line (rahs-attendance@isd623.org or 651-604-1465).
Students Leaving School During the School Day
Please remember that if your child is not feeling well during the school day, they must check out through the Health Office. The Health Office needs to contact you for permission and write your child a pass to leave. If your child needs to leave for a planned appointment, the attendance office will give them a pass. Leaving the building without a pass from the health office or the attendance office will result in an unexcused absence.
