The Lion's Share
May 2024
From the Principal . . .
Thank you all for making sure your child was here for our long month of state testing in April. It takes a team effort to build confidence and focus. Our 5th grade students helped lead the way by learning and sharing test taking strategies during morning announcements and posting positive thoughts around our school. It was a "Do-nut" stress about the test theme and it was motivating and calming.
May will bring many events: teacher appreciation week, Monday Muffins, field trips, music performances, classroom end of year events, and 6th grade promotion. We look forward to seeing all of you at our May events as we celebrate our great school year.
Thanks,
Andrea Emerick
Principal

From Nurse Chris
Dear Parents,
Here are some reminders for summer follow up:
- New kindergarten students: If you have received letters from me for inadequate immunizations you will need to follow up over the summer and have them completed by the start of school in July.
- New 6th grade students: 2 immunizations are due by age 12 for all 6th grade students. These are the TDAP (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) and the meningitis vaccines.
- 11 year old students: These vaccines can be given at age 11
- 12 year old students: These vaccines are required by the start of the school year in July.
- Students going into 7th grade: If you have a child with a May, June or early July birthday, please check to make sure that they have these vaccines. If not they will need to be completed before the start of school.
- Stop by the nurse’s office with a copy of these newly completed vaccines.
- If you have received letters from me regarding failed hearing or vision screenings, please try to follow up over the summer. We do have limited resources for those of you who may need assistance with this. I did call all the teachers with students who received a referral from me and those who have new glasses or lenses have documentation of this.
Finally, I wanted to let you know that I will be retiring at the end of this school year in May. It has been an absolute pleasure working at Settler’s Point Elementary!
