K-Beach Elementary School
A Message from Mrs. Van Slyke
We have had a wonderful start to our school year and student behavior has been excellent! This does not happen by accident. Thank you for your positive influence in developing the character of your child.
As a school, we focus on acknowledging and reinforcing positive behavior. Compliments have a direct impact on the success students and classes have in reaching their behavior goals.
Thank you for your continued support!
🌟 Positive Office Referrals 🌟

RIGS Assembly
We held our annual RIGS assembly on Friday, September 20th. RIGS stands for Reading Is Great in Summer, and this assembly celebrates students who participated in our summer reading program this past summer. This has been a K-Beach tradition for 23 years! Thank you to the Soldotna Rotary and Marathon Oil for their generous support. They have helped sponsor our RIGS program for many years. All students who participated in RIGS received two books, and students who read over 900 minutes were also given a RIGS T-shirt! The RIGS T-shirt this year has a special caribou on the sleeve to commemorate K-Beach Elementary's 40th year as a school.
We recognized top readers in each grade level and awarded them with an additional prize.
- Kindergarten – Ivan Knight
- First grade – Raelen Biswas
- Second grade – Rhett Kato
- Third grade – Davin McCaughey
- Fourth grade – Jackson Kjostad
- Fifth grade – Opal Keen
- Sixth grade – Mykelyn Rasmussen
This year we crowned Mykelyn Rasmussen as our RIGS Queen! She read 7,245 minutes this past summer. Wow! Students and teachers who participated in the program read a grand total of 195,430 minutes. Way to go, Caribou!

Attendance
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school - and themselves! Here are a couple of tips to help your child build a habit of great attendance:
- Know that perfect attendance is not the goal. There are times when your child should stay home due to illness. When this happens ask your child's teacher for work that may have been missed in class.
- Limit out-of-school time. Try to schedule medical appointments and extended trips when school is not in session.

Halloween Costumes
Your child's classroom teacher will communicate with you regarding Halloween plans for your child. It will be up to the classroom teacher whether costumes will be allowed or if there will be a class celebration. Please remember that costumes should be school appropriate and kid-friendly, and play weapons and masks are not allowed. If your child's class is having a celebration, it is preferred that treats are store-bought. Please contact your child's teacher if you have any questions.

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program
