Principal's Message
Dear Garden Road Families,
APEX has been bringing the excitement to Garden Road! Jungle Josh, The Almighty Jorge, and Smilin' Kilyne have been teaching character lessons, holding assemblies, and getting pied in the face! Our morning announcements are highlighting our character trait of the month (for September), Be Proactive. Students are also highlighting famous Hispanic Americans in the morning announcements. While the weather is cooling, it looks as though we will head in to some hot weather this week! If the temperature rises above 90 degrees, we will keep students indoors for playground times.
I hope to see you at the APEX fun run this week on Wednesday, October 2! Although it is supposed to be a very warm day, we should be done with the fun run before the temperature soars too high! We will keep a close eye on the temperature and our students to ensure they are not getting overheated.

Friday Flag on Friday, October 4 with a surprise from APEX!
This Friday will be our Friday Flag ceremony. If you are notified that your child is receiving an Eagle of the Month Award, there will be a reception in the MPR starting at 7:15 for you and your student so they can receive their award. There will be breakfast treats and coffee.
This month's Friday Flag ceremony will include a celebration of our fundraising efforts with APEX. A principal's challenge has been issued! We will close out our time with APEX with a fun event including students and the principal. More information will be coming out this week!

Food and Nutrition Reminders
School breakfast and school lunch are FREE for all enrolled students, every school day. Meals must still be entered into the cafeteria computer by individual student account.
Even though meals are free, families are highly encouraged to complete the application for free and reduced-price meal eligibility. School site funding depends in part on the number of students eligible for free/reduced-price meals. Families that qualify for free/reduced-price meals may qualify for other benefits, as well. The meal application is available online at MySchoolApps.com.
Printer-friendly PDF menus are available on the PUSD Food and Nutrition webpage. At the top of the page, click or hover over School Menus + and then Printable PDF Menus.
- Interactive, web-based menus containing nutrient and allergen details are available at MySchoolMenus.com, as well as via links from the F&N webpage.

Library News
We celebrated Hispanic Heritage in the Library! Students learned the significance of honoring the history, culture & influence of past generations that came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central & South America.
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th.
Sept. 15th marks the independence anniversary of five countries: Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras & Guatemala. It is followed by Mexico's Independence Day on Sept. 16th and Chile's on Sept. 18th. Dia de la Raza, or Columbus Day, which is on Oct. 12th, also falls in this 3o day period.
This year's theme, “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together,” encapsulates the spirit of innovation, resilience, and unity that define the Hispanic experience.
Here are a few ways we can celebrate the beauty of this month at home:
- Dish up some delicious flavors.
- Learn about Hispanic and Latino celebrations and traditions.
- Give your game night a Hispanic Heritage Month twist.
- Explore Latinx heritage through art.
- Read books by Hispanic and Latino authors.
- Support Hispanic/Latino owned businesses and restaurants.
