April 2024
Dear Asa Families,
Happy April! The first day of April has brought us some sunshine and hopefully it continues. March was more like a grizzly bear in my book. The lions and certainly the lambs weren't anywhere to be found. Here's to hoping that April is bringing us the brighter and warmer weather we are looking forward to this month and lots of outdoor recess.
April looks to be a busy month as we pack lots of great events in around the April break. We are looking forward to the grades four and five musical Rainbow Fish, this week. We also have the historical solar eclipse heading our way, the grades two and three concert, and then kindergarten screening at the end of the month. The month will certainly go by in a flash. Here's to hoping you have a great month ahead and wonderful spring break.
As always, if you have suggestions on how to improve the Asa school community we would love to hear from you, and remember we are here if you need us.
Sincerely,
Ms. Wyman and Ms. West
Historic Eclipse Viewing Monday, April 8th.
The historic astronomical event of a total solar eclipse is coming our way next Monday, April 8th. The last total solar eclipse in North America was in 2017 and the next total solar eclipse in North America will be 20 years from now. However, being in the right place at the right time is key and for this eclipse Maine is the place to be. The eclipse here in Maine will roughly run as follows:
- Partial eclipse beginning at 2:22 p.m.
- Total eclipse beginning at 3:32 p.m.
- Eclipse peak at 3:33 p.m.
- Eclipse ends at 4:40 p.m.
Students here at Asa will be discussing the eclipse with their teachers and also learning about how to safely view the eclipse using the special viewing glasses provided by the school district.
Please find below two articles from Science News Explores regarding the upcoming eclipse and viewing safety.
Additionally, find a link below to live footage of the historic eclipse provided by the University of Maine.
