Principal's Update
I hope everyone has enjoyed the start of the school year! Nance is proud to have been recognized as both a state and national school of character in 2024, and we are encouraging everyone-- students, staff, families and our community- to get excited about our core values of Honesty, Empathy, Accountability, Respect and Tenacity! As a school community we define our core values as:
- Honesty- To speak or act truthfully, no matter the outcome
- Empathy- To understand the feelings of others
- Accountability- To demonstrate the power to own your actions
- Respect- To treat yourself and others with kindness
- Tenacity- To keep going even when things get tough
Students have been engaged in culture-building and team-building activities during the opening days of school to learn about their classmates and teachers and create a positive community of learners, as well as helping to understand the core values and what it means to demonstrate them at all times. Here are a few additional reminders for families for the first full month of the school year:
- In accordance with district policy, students are not allowed to have cell phones visible or in use during the day. Phones must be stored in bookbags in classroom lockers each morning. In case of emergency, please contact the main office to reach your child.
- Don't forget, Nance is a uniform school. All students should wear a blue, white, green, or navy polo shirt and tan, black, khaki, or navy pants each day. Jeans are only allowed on Fridays.
- School hours for 2024-2025 are 8:20 AM-3:17 PM daily. Door 2 (parking lot) opens at 8:05 AM each day for student arrival/drop-off. Students who are picked up will be released from the gym beginning at 3:17 PM. Parents are asked to remain in their vehicles when dropping off and picking up students.

New Student Registration
New student registration is available at Nance every day from 8:00 AM-4:00 PM. The following must be provided in order to register new students:
- Photo ID for parent/guardian
- Proof of residency (unpaid utility bill such as gas, electric, AT & T phone bill, cable bill, etc.)
- Child’s original birth certificate
- Shot record
- Copy of physical exam
- Copy of dental exam
- Report card (if coming from another school)
- New students who receive special education services need a completed release of information and provide the most recent IEP.
In order to ensure we have the most up to date information for your child, parents and guardians of returning students will update a student information form, pick-up authorization form, media release, and technology usage release for each student. Forms will be made available to parents at the beginning of the school year or parents can come to the main office and complete these updates.
School Buddies Program
This year at Nance we’re making an extra effort to build a stronger sense of community and belonging, to create a place where children feel comfortable and cared for. As a start, we are implementing a new program to help children get to know more of the other children at school.
Next week we will be starting a Buddies Program. Each classroom will be matched with another classroom in the school, and each student will be assigned a “buddy” from the other class. Children in younger grade levels will be paired with students in older grade level. Our goal is to help older children experience being responsible, caring friends and to help the younger students feel comfortable and cared for at school.
Activities will be arranged so that buddy classes can get to know one another and develop friendships. In addition to regular monthly meetings, throughout the year students will continue to work with their buddies on special projects and academic activities and to promote our core values of honesty, empathy, accountability, respect, and tenacity.
We hope you will take a few minutes after our first buddy class meeting on Thursday, September 12th to ask your child about his or her buddy and what it’s like to have a buddy classroom. Your interest in this program and buddy relationships will only make it more valuable for our students and support connections among our community.

Parent drop-off is at Door 2 in the Nance parking lot beginning at 8:05 AM. Breakfast is provided for all students each day.
The school day ends at 3:17 PM. Students who are pick-up may be picked up beginning at 3:17 PM from Door 3. School Nurse Update
Welcome to the first semester of the 24-25 school year! I am excited to be back and hope that the students are as well.
If your student has asthma or a life-threatening allergic reaction, please proved an action plan from the students physician and an Epi-pen and Albuterol inhaler.
The new students who are enrolling are doing great with being immunization compliant. If you have been contacted by this office, please have the updated shot record to the school by October 15. Below you will find links to the Missouri Immunization requirements.
If your student has seasonal allergies, it would be very helpful to receive medical documentation of this. This will better facilitate treatment for your student.
If you have any questions, please contact me during the school day. I am here from 07:50 AM-4:20 PM. Let's have a great start to the new school year! Nance students have HEART!
