Charger Check-In

The fall season is coming and with that comes the season of school safety drills.

Fire/Evacuation

• We will have our first fire/evacuation drill on Wednesday, September 25. The drill will be announced, teachers will prepare students prior to the drill and I will make a PA announcement with reminders about procedure before the drill begins.
• We will have two additional drills in the coming weeks. Those will not be announced to students.

Severe Weather/Tornado

• Our severe weather/tornado drill will happen on Thursday, September 26.
• All students, faculty and staff will participate.

Lockdown

• We will conduct our annual lockdown drill on October 17. The Oak Lawn Police will be on hand to observe the drill and provide any feedback.

Bus Evacuation

• We are still in the process of securing buses for this drill.

As we prepare for the coming of girls volleyball, boys basketball and indoor soccer, please make note of the requirement for a current school physical - as well as a waiver and concussion form - in order to participate. This includes evaluations and practices in addition to games. If your child does not have these items on file with the school, they will not be able to participate. This is a state requirement.

A Bit More News...

• Each year, schools whose buildings contain some asbestos are required by Illinois law to notify school families, as well as faculty and staff, that the building has materials with asbestos. Here is the official notification.
• We have just completed the fifth week of the trimester, academic eligibility reviews have begun. Please scroll down for important information.
• The registration form for October's Beyond the Books went home in this week's white envelope. Payment and the completed registration form are due back by Thursday, September 26.
• It's time for S & T pizza set ups! The forms also went home in this week's white envelope. Forms and payment are due back by Tuesday, October 15.
• Our next Eat & Earn is on Monday, September 23 from 4-10PM at Lou Malnati's (5261 W 95th St. in Oak Lawn). Both take-out and delivery will be honored. Our FSA will earn 20% on all orders that reference the promo code "GPFUND24."

Last week marked the fourth week of the trimester which is when we begin reviewing grades to confirm academic eligibility for 4th-8th graders involved in a co-curricular activity (e.g., athletics, choir, chimes, etc.). Grades are pulled on Thursdays at 8AM.

• Parents/guardians of students with one or more failing grades were notified of their child's probationary status via email from Mr. O'Keefe. This information was also shared with athletic coordinators of the involved sports who notified coaches.
• If a child has a failing grade in the same subject area for a second consecutive week, the child will need to sit out of all co-curricular activities beginning Thursday and continuing through Wednesday of the following week.
• If, at the grade check of the next week (third week consecutive week), the child's grade improves to passing, they may rejoin the co-curricular activity(s). If their grade remains in the failing range, the "sitting out" period will continue. The "sitting out" period will continue until the child's grade in that subject is passing at the time of the weekly grade pull on Thursday mornings.
• Parents/guardians with questions about their student's grade(s) should contact the teacher of that particular subject area.

Indoor Soccer Registration for the St. Gerald's Co-Ed K-4 Soccer League is open and closes on Monday, September 30th at 4 PM. Please complete this registration form.

As a reminder, all student athletes will need a valid sports physical, waiver, and concussion form on file prior to the start of the season. Your child will not be able to participate without all three of these items on file.

Payment for the Indoor league will be collected on Monday, September 30th from 6:30-8:00 PM in the Gym Vestibule. No late registrations will be added. Please reach out to Karen Brogan and/or Katie Fitzpatrick-Terrill with any questions.

Please complete one form per child, per sport. There are multiple sections. You will receive an email of completion.

Registration will close on October 11. We will NOT accept any late registrations due to the requirement of sports physicals to the school and deadlines for the number of teams required to the leagues. There will be no exceptions.
