Kia Ora Everyone
A short week for us all this week with the school being open for only 3 days. The long weekend was no doubt enjoyed by all of us as. The children will enjoy another long weekend as we are closed on Friday 6 June for a Teacher Only Day. All of the teachers will be engaged in professional development delivered by the MoE on the new Maths Curriculum and the platform that we are using to deliver aspects of the new Maths Curriculum Oxford Maths.
The annual fundraiser which has been in the form of an 'athon' for the past few years is generating a lot of buzz amongst the kids, especially leading up to the first spot prize draw happening tomorrow. Children need to have returned their Value-A-Thon Booklet to be in the draw and collected and returned the fundraising, or a portion of the fundraising. Thanks everyone for getting behind this as the money fundraised will be going towards purchasing new teaching resources to support the implementation of the the new NZ Maths and English Curriculum.
We are towards the end now of the appointment process for the new Year 4 to Year 6 Assistant Principal. The appointments committee of myself, Angelique and Ambie from the SLT and Board member Felicity Wiggins have been working our way through many applications and the interview process. Because of the number of quality applicants we have received, we have found that it is not an easy decision to make, but we are looking to appoint the new Y4 to Y6 Assistant Principal in the next day or two.
Don't forget to book your learning conference with your child's teacher on 10 and 11 June. Please note the bookings for the 10 June conferences will close on 9 June at 3pm and the bookings for the 11 June conferences will close at 3pm on 10 June. Details on how to book have been sent home and are in this newsletter too!
Please enjoy this newsletter.

How Do I Know If My Child Is Too Sick To Come To School?
Going to school every day is important for all school aged tamariki (children). It helps build their confidence and social skills, and to achieve their education and life ambitions. This information helps you decide when it is okay to send your child to school, when you should keep your child at home and when you should contact a health professional for advice. Macleans Values in Action: Botany Creek Community Clean-Up
The Macleans Values were in action last weekend as Nathan Lu from Room 22 and George Li 21 from room and their mums helped out with the Botany Creek Community Clean-up. The organisers were especially grateful to see such young volunteers taking part. They said it was very meaningful to have the youngest helpers there. The clean-up meant that rubbish like cans, snack wrappers, and plastic waste were collected, while the more experienced volunteers waded in and pulled out things like shopping trolleys, tires, and even office chairs! One of the teachers from Mangere School chatted with George and Nathan about invasive plant species, which was really interesting. Well done Nathan and George and their mums! You are great examples of the Macleans Values.
