Your senior year of high school is here! During the next several months, you'll probably experience a wide range of feelings from excitement to confusion to even a little stress! Please remember, we are here to assist you each step of the way as you navigate through this year and plan for your future.
If you have questions about your courses, remaining graduation requirements, diploma type, etc., please be in touch with Mrs. Rust & Mrs. O'Brien. They will be in and out of the office this summer, so it's always best to set up an appointment prior to arriving at Student Services. If it's easier for you, a phone call or email works too!
Your schedules have been posted online in SchoolTool. You will also be receiving your schedule in the mail, along with your diploma order form. This form needs to be returned to Student Services by September 25th! Be on the lookout for both important items!
There will be a lot of information shared with you this year! Please be sure to check out the announcements daily and get in the habit of checking your email on a regular basis! Also, as you head from the main hallway down the math wing, be sure to check out the Student Services bulletin board for important information.
Is College Your Next Step? Here Are Tips, Tools, and a Timeline to Get Started!
Struggling to Select the "Right" College?
While there is no sure-fire way to select the right college, here are some tips to keep in mind as you finalize your selections:
- What are your priorities? What do you want to study? What campus characteristics interest you the most? Are you looking for a certain location/activity/sport?
- Ask your parents/guardians, teachers, coaches, relatives, alumni, and friends about various colleges.
- Learn more about colleges during a virtual tour day!
- Visit the Student Services section of the District Website for additional online resources for everything from the college search, to financial aid, to career information.
College Applications ... Things to Keep in Mind!
- As you're finalizing the schools you will be applying to, be sure to include a "safety school."
- Double check the admission procedures. Do they still require SAT/ACT scores? Are SAT subject tests required?
- Determine the application procedure you will follow (Early Action, Early Decision, Regular Admission) and determine your application deadline! Communicate this information with your counselor as soon as it is determined.
- Supplemental applications may be required (this varies by college/university).
- What items are generally included in an application?
- Online Application (Common App/SUNY App): install the Common App onTrack App to help in this process.
- Transcript: submitted by your counselor to your colleges/universities.
- Official SAT/ACT Scores (if still required): you will send your scores directly from the College Board/ACT to the college/university (you will need our school code - 335140 - for registration).
- Essay: be sure to submit your best work; speak from the heart; write about something that will set you apart from others; make sure you - and a teacher - proofread your essay
- Portfolio (varies school to school, as well as by major).
- Letters of Recommendation: one from your counselor; one or two others from a teacher, employer, and/or community member.
- Application Fee (varies per school): must be submitted in order for your application to be reviewed; see Mrs. Rust or Mrs. O'Brien for questions regarding fee waivers.

Updates from the SUNY System
The SUNY system has decided to temporarily suspend SAT/ACT testing requirements for rising high school seniors intending to enroll at a SUNY bachelor’s degree-granting campus for the 2021-2022 academic year. This temporary change of admission eligibility requirements applies to the spring 2021, fall 2021, and spring 2022 cycles only.
SUNY will continue to use a holistic review of student applicants (grades, program of study, exam scores, academic achievements, non-academic achievements, and other activities) that allow for the evaluation of the potential success of a candidate for admission.

Upcoming SAT & ACT Dates ...
The SAT and the ACT will be offered on the following dates. The cost of the SAT without the essay is $52.00; the cost of the SAT with the essay is $68.00. The ACT has a basic fee of $52.00 with an optional writing test (cost with writing is $68.00). If the cost of these tests presents a hardship, you may be eligible for a fee waiver. Please check with your counselor.

College Board Opportunity Scholarships
This unique program offers scholarship opportunities to seniors as you navigate through the college planning process. In other words, you have a chance to earn a scholarship for each action step below you complete:
- Practice for the SAT: $1,000 (Open Through October): prepare for the SAT by practicing for six or more hours in your Khan Academy account on satpractice.org. Be sure to link your College Board and Khan Academy accounts!
- Improve Your Score: $2,000 (Open Through January): improving your scores by 100-plus points from the PSAT/NMSQT to the SAT, or from the first SAT taken to the second.
- Strengthen Your College List: $500 (Open Through October): be sure to update your lists on BigFuture™ ... be sure to include at least one safety school, two schools that match your academic strengths,, and three reach colleges.
