WEEK OF 05/20 - 05/24
It seems like we can't keep our heads above water in the fall, we make it to October, take a quick breath and then blink and it is May!
I can't believe another year is almost over and I feel like I still have so many things I need to accomplish! I hope you are feeling a sense of accomplishment and are easing into summer. If not, know that you are almost there!
We are excited to bring back open gyms again on Tuesdays this summer. Please check out the summer PD calendar that is attached to the smore for details.
Also, does beginning the summer with an extra $360 in your pocket sound good? If so, consider attending an AVID path training with everyone's favorite math staff developer Sandy in Math discourse-revised and redone for this summer or learn literacy strategies that can be applied to any classroom or learning environment K-12 by any classroom teacher, specialist, or aide by attending Academic Language and Literacy!
Don't miss an opportunity to attend this fantastic training, a chance to get 12 CPDUs and earn $360 all within less than a week of getting out of school! Please call Heidi at 1098 to sign up!
Take Care,

Academic Language and Literacy:
The Academic Language and Literacy Community of Practice empowers elementary and secondary educators to enhance student engagement and promote access to content for multilingual learners and all who can benefit from targeted language development. This professional learning experience encourages educators to nurture students’ backgrounds, experiences, and language by facilitating skill development in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Educators will explore integrating AVID’s college and career readiness skills through language-building routines and scaffolded instruction, enabling academic preparedness, opportunity knowledge, and student agency. After completing the Academic Language and Literacy Community of Practice, participants will be equipped to create equitable learning spaces that foster student voice development and promote active contribution in rigorous academic contexts. All strategies, digital activities, and digital tools experienced in this Community of Practice can be leveraged in face-to-face, blended, or virtual learning environments.
This Community of Practice requires all participants to have their own device or laptop that can connect to the internet. Participants must bring an acceptable device, power cord, and earbuds/headphones with them to the session. If a district-issued device is being used, be sure to log in to the device on the district network before attending. Device software and preferred web browsers (Chrome or Firefox) need to be up to date.

Creating Engaging and Rigorous Classrooms:

Educators will learn how to use Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR®) student-centered instructional practices and explore the framework of AVID Digital Learning: The 4 A’s® to meaningfully integrate digital strategies to differentiate instruction and increase student agency. Participants will learn strategies to build connected communities through relational capacity activities to foster supportive and equitable learning spaces.
