May is here and it feels like we are sprinting to the end of the year! May is Mental Health Awareness Month and we are including valuable resources below. Please take a few minutes to review the information below as we believe it is very important.

You will also find three different training options and information relating to CAP for seniors, Adk Career Connect Field Trip for freshmen, and Individual Progress Reviews for freshmen.

In addition, Monday, May 6th-Friday, May 10th, is Teacher Appreciation Week! We are so thankful for the relationship our teachers build with our students and the time and energy they put into teaching our students. We are EXTREMELY lucky at Saranac High School!

"Psychologist Orben once heard a metaphor that may help parents understand how to approach this new technology. Social media for children is a bit like the ocean, she says, noting that it can be an extremely dangerous place for children. Before parents let children swim in any open water, they make sure the child is well-prepared and equipped to handle problems that arise. They provide safety vests, swimming lessons, often in less dangerous waters, and even then parents provide a huge amount of supervision."

We understand what a daunting task keeping up with social media can be but it is imperative to the mental well being of our children. We hope that providing information in our newsletter and offering parent nights such as Screenagers is helpful in equipping you with "safety vests and swimming lessons" for your children.

Seniors that are taking CAP courses must request their transcripts themselves from Clinton Community College once they have COMPLETED all of their CAP courses. This should be done the first week of July. A link below will provide more details.

The freshmen class will be attending Adk Career Connect on May 9th at the SUNY Plattsburgh Field House. The freshmen will attend in the morning. This is the culmination of their career project. Students can expect the following:

• Interactive career exploration experiences
• Summer jobs, internships, apprenticeships, and post-secondary opportunities
• Giveaways

Freshmen will begin their individual progress reviews this month and they will conclude by May 31st. Students should schedule during a free period (lunch or study hall.) If a student does not have a free period they should reach out to us directly to schedule their meeting. We will post the links on Schoology for students to sign up but will also include them below. An additional way to book an appointment with us are QR codes that are posted around the building.
