Weekly Attendance Update
Please Help Us With Attendance!
Remember that instruction begins at 7:50am. Supervision and free school breakfast are available starting at 7:25am, so we encourage you to plan your drop-off for between 7:30-7:40am each day.
We had a good week of attendance, with the weekly average just over 93% (the goal this year is 94%). On Wednesday, we had almost 96% attendance...WOW!!! Thank you for getting our Leopards to school every day, especially over the next few weeks as we finish State Testing and end-of-year assessments for all students!
REMEMBER, MISSING ONLY 2 DAYS PER MONTH IS THE SAME AS MISSING AN ENTIRE MONTH OF SCHOOL FOR THE YEAR!!
**We need your help with tardies! We begin instruction AT 7:50am, so please arrive early enough for students to get all of their instructional minutes

CAASPP State Testing is Happening NOW!
Dear Parent/Guardian:
There are many ways to measure your child’s learning and it is natural for every student to have academic strengths as well as areas where they may need more support and improvement. Your child’s teacher uses report card grades, classroom work, teacher observations, and end-of-year statewide test results to get a complete picture of your child’s learning. Each year, students across the state participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). Your child will take the following tests, depending on their grade level or instructional program:
Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for English language arts and math, required tests in grades 3–5
California Science Test (CAST), a required test in grades 5
This year, students at Rio Vista Elementary School will take the summative assessments during the following testing window: May 5 - May 23, 2025.
The testing schedule is listed below:
7:30am - FREE Breakfast in Cafeteria (Students who eat breakfast at school receive PBIS points!)
7:50am - Report to classrooms (Students who arrive on-time receive points towards Rewards Week!)
8:00am - 9:30am - TESTING (Students who show excellent effort during testing receive points towards Rewards Week!)
You are an important part of your child’s education. To make sure your child feels comfortable taking tests, you can:
Explain to your child that these tests are tools to help them learn, and they should not be anxious or scared.
Explore the practice tests with your child at caaspp.org/practice-and-training/index.html so they can become familiar with the platform and setup of the tests.
Remind your child that you and their teacher want them to try their best and are there to help, every step of the way.
You will receive your child’s results at or before the beginning of the next school year. The results will identify where your child is doing well or needs more help, so you can better support their learning at home and teachers can better support their learning in the classroom.
To learn more about these tests go to the Starting Smarter web page at ca.startingsmarter.org/, or review the Parent Guides to Understanding at cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca/parentguidetounderstand.asp.
The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District and Rio Vista Elementary School are home to outstanding students, teachers, and programs and together we encourage full participation in CAASPP testing to ensure our students and schools earn the recognition they deserve.

Estimado padre/madre o tutor:

May is Mental Health Awareness Month
Our amazing counselor, Mrs. Raja, will be continuing her classroom presentations to help teach students how they can take care of their mental health, focusing on a "Growth Mindset" and positive attitude even in the face of challenges and difficulties.
PYLUSD Good News Report featuring Rio Vista!
On April 24, Rio Vista Elementary School proudly hosted its annual AVID Family STEM Night, bringing together students, families, and staff for an evening of collaborative learning and exploration. The event featured a variety of hands-on STEM challenges designed to promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Activities included constructing the tallest tower using only plastic cups and creating the longest chain from strips of paper, all encouraging teamwork between students and their families.
End of Year Library
See the flier below for reminders about the end of year schedule and plan for the Library.
Respecting our Volunteers
Did you know that our very own Rio Vista parents are helping to support the valet line in the morning? They are parents just like you who are dedicating their time to support the school, and their main focus is the safety of all our Leopards who are coming to school every day.
You can recognize our PTA Volunteers in the parking lot because they have special blue vests!
Thank you for driving slowly in our parking lot, pulling all the way forward to load and unload, and refraining from stopping in the valet line. If you want to watch your student walk all the way to the gate please be sure to park nearby or walk them up so the valet line is not stopped.
Thanks to our volunteers and thank you to our community for following the same Leopard Laws we ask our students to observe every single day!
TK/Kinder Registration
We can't wait to welcome your Future Leopards! TK and Kinder Registration is OPEN NOW; please follow up with our office team to make sure we have everything necessary to register your student for next year here at Rio Vista.
PTA Membership Reminder
We are quite a bit behind last year's pace for families signed up as PTA members. All proceeds go directly to support our students in every grade, so your support is appreciated!
CLICK HERE to sign up quickly. Thank you for your $15 donation!!
PTA Volunteers
Starting in December, PTA volunteers can help teachers by taking care of preparation tasks (making copies, cutting things out, etc.) on Tuesdays. Reach out if you have any questions about how you can help.
Also, thank you to our PTA parents who signed up to volunteer supporting valet in the parking lot in the morning!
Remember, everyone is trying to be on time to school and to make it to their next destination safely, so thank you for respecting the rules of the parking lot by only dropping off in the drive through lane, dropping off after passing the cross walk, and not blocking traffic in the drive through lane.
Lost and Found
Please be sure to check the Lost and Found regularly to look for items your child may have left behind around campus. Our PTA helpers wash and hang the clothes, so please leave the hangers when you take your items.
At the end of each month, anything left on the Lost and Found cart will be donated to our local Goodwill.
Rio Vista PTA website
Click HERE to access our amazing PTA website with links to all upcoming school and community events! Scan the QR Code below to join as a member (only $15 per family to join PTA, nothing else is required to be a member!).
Rio Vista is one of only 2 schools in all of Orange County (and one of only 24 schools in the state of California!) to earn this recognition. Thank you to our amazing PTA Board for their leadership and dedication, and thank you to all of our wonderful parents and families for joining as members (your donation goes directly to students) and for volunteering when possible.
Parking Lot Reminders
Please do not walk in the wheelchair accessible area (marked by blue stripes) where we load students into the cars.
Also, PLEASE DO NOT PARK ALONG ANY RED CURB as that space needs to be available for emergency services in the case of an emergency. Please be courteous to our neighbors and do not park in front of anyone's driveway.
Make sure to remind your students to pay attention at the dismissal area. If we have to call them more than 3 times and they do not come to the loading zone, we will ask you to go back around in line and we'll try again.
Thank you for working together to keep everyone safe!
Parent-School Compact
See the document below for reminders about our collective responsibilities to each other as parents, students, and teachers. Be sure to ask for a copy of this to sign at your parent/teacher conference this week.
