Lincoln Lowdown- 10/14/24

We're making progress!
Grading Period 1
Lincoln Families,
As we conclude the first grading period, I want to acknowledge the hard work and commitment our students, staff, and families have shown. This milestone marks the beginning of a year full of growth, learning, and achievement, and we are proud of the progress our students have made so far.
Additionally, we would like to recognize Yom Kippur, an important day of reflection, atonement, and renewal for many in our community. To those observing, we wish you a meaningful and peaceful holiday.
Thank you for your continued support as we move into the next phase of the school year.
Looking forward to a strong second grading period!

Culturally Responsive Teaching
I’m excited to highlight some fantastic culturally responsive teaching strategies happening in our classrooms.
Dr. Moe had his students graph equations to design a marble run, which they then constructed using cardboard boxes. This hands-on project allowed students to apply mathematical concepts in a creative, real-world context, fostering deeper engagement and problem-solving skills.
Mrs. McCoy connected her class’s latest reading to a unique cultural experience by having students make egg cream soup—a combination of chocolate milk with a splash of soda water. This activity brought the story to life and allowed students to explore the cultural significance of the dish in a fun and interactive way.
Thank you, Dr. Moe and Mrs. McCoy, for providing these engaging and culturally enriching experiences for our students!

CA Great Shakeout!
Thursday, October 17th-10:17am
On Thursday, October 17 at 10:17,we will be participating in California’s Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill. This full-scale earthquake simulation drill will provide our students and staff the opportunity to practice earthquake emergency response. Please note that during drills - as well as true emergencies - the school campus will be locked until the drill/emergency is complete. Please keep this in mind for any pick-up needs; we anticipate the drill to take 45min to an hour. We will also be following a modified bell schedule.
During this drill, our site will be practicing the “drop, cover and hold” procedures in the classroom, evacuating to our field assembly area, activating our Emergency Response teams to “sweep” the school for mock injured students/staff and reviewing procedures with our First Aid Team. We will also be practicing our Request and Reunion Gate procedures as well with PTSA volunteers.
In the event of any true emergency or necessary unplanned dismissals, you or emergency contacts with permission to pick up your student will always start at the Request Gate at the California/16th St. parking lot. Parents will then walk to the Reunion Gate on Washington/15th St. to meet your child. Please note, circumstances may arise where alternative staging areas may be needed so be prepared to look for “LMS Request Gate” and “LMS Reunion Gate” as needed. This is a good time to check and make sure we have the most up-to-date emergency contacts for your family as we cannot release your child to an adult who is not listed in Aeries.
We hope this information helps as you check in with your child at home in preparation as we understand these emergency drills can cause distress for some of our students. Take this time to also review with your families at home about emergency procedures at home. Here is a guide you may want to use when discussing with family.
Reflections! Applications extended to 10/14!
