WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHILD WITH THE SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION
There are so many ways to help your child at home even if you are not fluent in the target language they are learning. Here are some tips for doing so:
- ask what they learned in class
- review their vocabulary or class notes with them for 5-10 minutes daily.
- listen to music in the target language.
- watch Television or movies in the target language.
- speak the target language if possible at home.
- flashcards with vocabulary
- label items in the house in the target language.
- use free digital platforms like Duolingo for 5 minutes a day.
WHAT ARE WE DOING THIS MONTH?
SPANISH ACADEMY
Spanish 1
We are about to finish Lesson 4 and start Lesson 5 - Vacation. In which we will be learning how to discuss and plan vacations, describe a hotel, talk about how you feel, and talk about seasons and the weather. Also working the grammar of “Estar with conditions and emotions”; “ser and estar difference”; and “direct object nouns and pronouns”.
Spanish 2
(Miguez)Students will be introduced to the following:

Students will be introduced to the following: vocabulary related to technology. Electronics, and the internet; terms related to cars and the accessories; affirmative tú commands; negative tú commands; uses of “por and para” ; reciprocal reflexives; stressed possessive adjectives and pronouns; watch a video created by a Spanish bookseller; watch a video about technology in Perú; geography, history and culture of Argentina.
(Morales)-We are learning
We are about to finish Lesson 4 and start Lesson 5 -La tecnología. In which we will be learning about talking using technology, and electronics; use common expressions on the telephone; talk about car trouble; Familiar commands; Por and Para; Reciprocal reflexives; and Stressed possessive adjectives and pronouns.
Spanish 3
Students will be introduced to the following:

Students will be introduced to the following: vocabulary related to fine arts, television and film; read about Colombian artist Fernando Botero; read about Hispanic artists; uses of the conditional tense; learn the use of the conditional perfect; the past perfect subjunctive; read poems by a Spanish poet; watch a television commercial for the TV Azteca; watch a video about Madrid’s Golden Triangle of museums; read about the geography and culture of El Salvador.

French 2 (7th)- currently offered online via OCVS/FLVS.

TWO-WAY DUAL LANGUAGE ACADEMY
español
sexto grado(6)- students are working towards the end of the years curriculum. We will be reviewing all concepts given to review for the end of the year test.
séptimo grado(7)- Students continue working on Poetry and its components. We will then work on reading comprehension and novels.
octavo grado AP(8)-Students will finish the last section of the AP test the oral conversation. Students will work on a simulated conversation with a script that will give them help on what to reply. They will need to create this simulated conversation based on the theme given. We will then we will review the reading, reading listening and listening components of the test.

Happy April ASL Lightning family!
We are starting our Unit 3 focusing on how to describe our living situations this week and hoping to finish the unit at end of this month so we can complete our last unit we need to do before our CFE (common final exam) happening in May.
Fun facts: April is Deaf History Month! We will be focusing on learning more about Deaf History. April 15th is our national ASL Day!
We have only 8 more weeks left till summer break! We can do it! Ka-Chow!
