Waikīkī School Parent Bulletin - May 10, 2024
5/17 - Diamond Head State Park unveiling and blessing of new educational kiosk
Dear 3rd Grade, C4, C5, and C7 Parents:
Please join us Friday, May 17, 9:00am-11:00 at Diamond Head to celebrate your child and all the hard work they put into the projects made for Diamond Head. We will be unveiling a life-size ʻiwa mosaic, and signage made by Waikiki School third graders, two native plant signs made by 4th graders and an educational sign showcasing local experts discussing the culture, history and plants found in the crater.
The basic outline is as follows:
students leave Waikiki at 8:15 to walk to Diamond Head, (please make sure your child is at school on time).
9:00am arrive at entrance of the tunnel--4th and 5th graders will chant us through the tunnel and expect everyone to get through the tunnel and arrive into the crater at 9:15.
9:30-10:30 Words of gratitude for individuals that helped with the project, Hawaiian blessing by Makua Maui, and unveiling of the magnificent work.
10:30-11:00- Cookies and playtime in the giant field in Diamond Head
11:00 return to school in time for 11:30 lunch.
Please make sure your child is on time to school on Friday, May 17. Send them slathered with sunscreen, and make sure they have a water bottle. They should wear comfortable covered walking shoes, and if they have a school shirt they should wear it.
We are requesting that Parents meet us at the crater and not walk up with the classes. The state has reserved an overflow parking lot for us and once you enter the park it will be located on the right. Someone will be there to direct traffic. Diamond Head in the morning can be crowded, so please leave yourself enough time to show your ID at the gate and get parked. Then make your way down to the entrance of the tunnel on the crater side to wait for the children. We will walk up as a group to the educational kiosk they helped make for an unveiling and blessing.
Thanks and if you have any questions or need to reach me during the event my cell is (808) 292-1120.
I hope everyone can make it!
