MESSAGE FROM THE CCS ADMINISTRATION
Good Afternoon CCS Caregivers and Charlotte Residents,
We are very excited to be hosting the CCS Open House next Tuesday, September 24th from 5 to 6 PM. Educators will be throughout the building waiting to greet students and answer any questions. These first few weeks of school have been designed for students to become experts in their learning community; we encourage you to let them be your guide. Daily, we observe your children, our learners, traveling throughout the building excited to be with peers and joyful about what they are learning.
This year we paused the traditional potluck due to some community concerns for mosquito-spread illnesses, however, there will be stations of sweets organized by the PTO inside the building.
While visiting the school, please browse through the overflowing lost and found. Items we find that are labeled with names are returned to students. However, we have a collection of clothing, lunch boxes and miscellaneous items that are either left in hallways, on the playground, or on buses; we’d like to reunite the owners with these items.
Also on the evening of September 24th and after Open House, CCS will host many of our local first responders for a training session. This exercise will prepare our local teams and mutual aid departments with valuable information about our campus and the inner workings of our building. Not only will they hear about the protocols and practices we have in place for our staff and students, we will be able to calibrate our CVSD responses with theirs to be effective and efficient, in case of an emergency. For more information on school safety, check out the CVSD School Safety site.
A final share about CCS events this week is to inform all of our CCS caregivers about an approach we took in response to patterns of behavior we noticed and wanted to redirect. Over the last three weeks, we’ve worked with the 5-8 staff community to talk about behavioral expectations, norming those expectations within our community of adults, and how to engage our students in this conversation as a full 5-8 community. The goals that emerged in those discussions centered on these four points:
- Increase learning by increasing time in class.
- Increase safety by knowing where everyone is.
- Connect in-school behavior with extracurricular activities.
- Introduce CVSD’s new Wellness Policy.
On Wednesday, we hosted two Community Meetings, one with 7th and 8th-grade students and another with 5th and 6th-grade students. After each meeting, students gathered with their advisory to ask questions and to reflect on how the changes would impact their learning and school culture. To sum it up, one middle schooler said, “you want us to learn, be safe, be responsible and be healthy.”
Thank you to all who reached out with the feedback and your partnership in making CCS the best place possible for our learners. We look forward to seeing you all next week.
Sincerely,
Jen and Tim

BUS CAPACITY MESSAGE TO FAMILIES
It is the policy of CVSD and the CVSD Transportation department to provide busing to and from school and students' homes/daycare on school days. Because we value the safety of our entire community and predictability of routes for our drivers and caregivers, the capacity of students on a bus and the length of the bus ride must conform with transportation guidance set by our district’s Transportation Supervisor. You can read more about CVSD’s Transportation Policy, here.
This year some of our buses are near capacity, limiting our ability to add additional students on those routes. Therefore, we cannot accommodate requests to transport students on routes different from their regular routes to and from their homes (e.g., private lessons, outside programming, playdates, birthday parties, etc.)
Transportation to those places must be handled by families and caregivers. Thank you for your understanding in creating the safest and most predictable bus routes for our entire CCS community.
LOST AND FOUND IS OVERFLOWING
Yes, after only 3 weeks our lost and found rack in the front lobby is overflowing.
With the cool mornings and the warm afternoons, there are so many sweaters, hoodies, and sweatshirts that have already made there way to the rack. The ever present lost water bottles also.
Please have your child(ren) check the lost and found for their missing items. We hate to give away people's clothes/water bottles/lunch boxes but we have a limited amount of space to store it.
Also, if you are driving by or come to pick up your child(ren) from CCS between the office hours of 7:30 and 4:00, please feel free to come into the lobby to check for your family's missing items.
Charlotte Central School is looking for 4th-8th graders to participate in our FIRST LEGO League Challenge!
FIRST LEGO League introduces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to children in grades 4-8 through fun, exciting hands-on learning. FIRST LEGO League participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program, helping today’s students and teachers build a better future together. In FIRST LEGO League, students engage in hands-on STEM experiences, building confidence, growing their knowledge, and developing habits of learning.
Mr. Holcomb and Steve Flint will be coaching FIRST LEGO League starting on October 1st. The team will meet and practice on some Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 until 4:30, with the season culminating in a qualifying competition on December 8th in Shelburne and a statewide competition on Saturday, January 18, 2025, in Essex!
We are only allowed 20 spots so please complete this Google Form, as soon as possible! We understand many students are involved in Fall Sports and will allow flexibility until that season wraps up.
The annual CCS Open House will be on Tuesday, September 24th, from 5 PM - 6 PM. You may arrive anytime in that window and will have the opportunity to explore your child's classroom, EA classes, and tour the school. Let your students be your tour guide! While teachers may have handouts or visuals around curriculum or learning goals, you won’t find any presentations to better allow for the ebb and flow of caregivers and students in and out of the classrooms, exploring, and connecting! We can’t wait to see you.
