Meet Dr. Abida Hasan Class of 2006
My name is Abida Hasan, I am a proud member of the HCHS class of 2006. While I was at HCHS I was a part of Latin Club, HOSA, Spanish Honor Society and Student Council. By my junior year, I became an officer in Student Council where I helped to plan and coordinate events for the student body. It was in this role that I first learned what an impact I could make for my peers as their liaison.
After finishing high school, I received my Bachelor of Science at Texas A&M University in Nutritional Sciences where I was in the College of Agriculture and Life Science’s Student Council so I could continue my role as an advocate for my peers. By my Senior year, I was Vice President of Operations and was able to meet with the Dean of the College on a regular basis to bring concerns and issues of the student body to the administration and make positive changes within the college.
I continued to serve in this role while in medical school as a Class Senator, in my Internal Medicine Residency as a Class Representative and as the Chief Fellow in my Rheumatology Fellowship at the State University of New York Downstate Medical in NYC.
All of these leadership roles I took on due to the positive impact my first leadership role had on me while at HCHS. The culture and environment at HCHS encouraged my peers and me to step out of our comfort zones and take on major roles in student leadership fostering the passion I now have for advocating for my peers. My hope is to continue this role in my community as a physician and woman in medicine, bringing important issues to the forefront and making impactful changes.
I am married and a mother to two little boys who keep me busy. I have recently moved back to Texas to be closer to my family after working as an attending in Rheumatology at UCSF in California for the past year.
