This week...
I can't believe we've come to the end of another half term. With each week, we see our lovely little school going from strength to strength. Have a look below to find out some of the things going on across school this week alone.
My personal highlight was driving home on Thursday, after our school discos, with a smile on my face. The discos highlighted to me the incredible love and support we have within our school community. Our Friends of St Joseph's dedicated so much of their own time into creating a wonderful experience for our children; our staff team stayed and even made it onto the dancefloor, whether the children wanted us to or not(!); our families bought tickets, transported children, and volunteered their time; and our FABULOUS children danced their hearts out!
We are blessed to be part of such a super school.
Thank you, as always, for supporting us to
Live, love and learn with the Lord.
Mrs Ronicle
Good Shepherd Celebration
On Tuesday, four of our Year 6 Mini Vinnies went to Leeds Cathedral to celebrate the Good Shepherd Appeal with lots of other schools from our Diocese! We presented the Bishop with our fundraising donation. Well done for being super representatives of our school.
School Discos!
Last night, we held two school discos! These were really well-attended and the children had so much fun! We are incredibly grateful to our Friends of St Joseph's, who put lots of their own time and energy into organising and running these super events for our children. Roll on next year's discos... !
Bikeability
We had two days of Bikeability workshops for our Year 6s this week. The Yorkshire weather, true to form, was horrendous! This didn't stop our children getting stuck in and soldiering on through the torrential rain! The instructors mentioned several times how wonderfully-behaved and engaged all of our children are. You make us very proud, children!
Mini Vinnies Cream Tea!
Yesterday, our Mini Vinnies had a visit from members of the 1833 SVP, who helped them bake scones, ready for today's cream tea. The children enjoyed learning about another facet of the SVP Society, and how we are linked to a much bigger organisation.
Today, our Mini Vinnies celebrated Mass at St Joseph's Church, and then served tea and their homemade scones to the local parishioners. Our children did themselves proud - serving with a smile and even staying to do the washing up!
Parishioners wanted to donate and we raised £72! At their next meeting, the Mini Vinnies will discuss how they would like to use this money to further improve the faith-life of our school.
A huge thank you to the 1833 SVP and Miss Savelli for organising such a wonderful experience for our children and local community.
Well-being
We have dedicated a page on our website to share our 'well-being' strategies with families. Please have a look to see some of the ways we promote health and well-being within our school!
Attendance Update
Whole School Attendance this week: 92.7%
Thank you for your help in supporting our children to be in school,
where we are able to help them to achieve their best!
We have been learning...
St Nicholas (Nursery)
As part of our Cinderella Week, our two-year-olds have made pasta necklaces! They showed good concentration, creativity and hand-eye coordination. This activity also gave us a great opportunity to focus on our colour recognition and counting skills.
Well done, St Nicholas!
St Francis (Preschool/Reception)
This half term in PE, St Francis have enjoyed learning different games to apply their skills including the Mr Men Game, Crocodile, domes and dishes and tidy the garden.
St Bernadette (Y1/Y2)
We've been thinking this week a lot about our virtue of kindness and done a lot of pair activities. We have really enjoyed working together on lots of different things including writing biographies for each other on the chromebooks and playing the glockenspiels in pairs!
St Patrick (Y3/Y4)
We have been super busy in St. Patrick's Class this week. We have been finishing off our Holiday Brochure persuasive writing. We have considered how to entice people to visit the island of Sicily. We used snappy sub-heading, catchy slogans and really thought about persuasive language.
We have also been learning about how muscles work in our body and recapping on skeletons ( human and animal) and how to stay healthy with focusing in on nutritional values.
St Therese (Y5/Y6)
St Therese Class have been deepening their understanding of volume and capacity this week. We learned to calculate the volume of cuboids, estimate volume of objects, and to use what we knew to work out the capacity of different containers.
