A Note from the Admin Team
Dear Menchaca Families,
We set out to make this year’s Fall Festival bigger and better, and we definitely made it happen! Thanks to you and your incredible support, the event was a great success. It was exciting to see both the young and the young-at-heart dressed in costumes, enjoying the games, music, and participating in the trunk-or-treating. We had a wonderful time and saw so many smiles from our students and families.
A special thank you to our amazing sponsors and special guests who helped make this event a success. We couldn’t have done it without them, and we’re so grateful for their contributions.

October continues to be a very busy but exciting time here at Menchaca ECC. Red Ribbon Week kicks off on October 23rd! This national campaign serves as a reminder of the importance of making safe choices and living a life free from harmful substances. Please continue to read the SMORE for more information about each dress-up day. As always, dress-up days for students are completely optional.
We will close out the month with our annual Storybook Character Parade on October 31st at 9 AM. We invite students to come dressed as their favorite storybook characters to celebrate the joy of reading in a fun and imaginative way.
Thank you again for making this year’s Fall Festival and October events such memorable occasions!
Regards,

National School Bus Safety Week
Each school day, millions of children ride school buses. Did you know that the school bus is one of the safest vehicles on the road? Less than 1% of all traffic fatalities involve children on school transportation vehicles. However, children are more at risk when approaching or leaving a school bus. It’s important for all drivers, as well as parents and students, to understand school bus safety.
This week all MECC students will have the opportunity to board a Southside ISD school bus to learn about all of the safety features and how to safely evacuate the bus in an emergency.
MECC 2024-2025 Campus Goals
All Kindergarten goals are directly aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), the state standards set by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). These standards outline what children should know and be able to do by the end of the kindergarten year.
For a complete list of the TEKS, please visit: https://tea.texas.gov/academics/curriculum-standards/teks/kinder-teks-062024-updated.pdf
All PK goals are based on the Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). These guidelines set the developmental expectations for what children should learn and be able to do by the end of the school year. For more information about the Texas PK Guidelines, please visit: https://tea.texas.gov/academics/early-childhood-education/educator-resources/texas-prekindergarten-guidelines
MECC's Cardinal VIP
October VIP
A Cardinal VIP is like every very important person, they demonstrate excellent behavior and amazing manners. Every month students will be nominated by their peers and administration and these VIPs will be honored at a Board Meeting with a certificate, Cardinal VIP polo shirt, and a goodie bag. Way to go Cardinal VIP’s!
Noah Martinez Cantu has consistently demonstrated exceptional character. He has shown great empathy and care by helping a classmate who occasionally comes to school upset, offering comforting hugs and assisting in calming her down. He is continuously learning new routines and diligently follows directions. His progress and dedication make us all incredibly proud! In addition, Noah has shown remarkable responsibility. He takes care of his tasks and returns to class promptly without needing reminders. He is reliable when going to different areas of the building, always completing what he needs to. His growth in personal responsibility is truly impressive!
Notes from the Nurse
Did you know that more than 5 million American children are diagnosed with asthma? It is the leading chronic illness in childhood affecting up to 10% of children and the #1 cause of hospitalizations for children. Common triggers of asthma include cold weather, dust and dust mites, cockroaches, mold, pet dander, tobacco smoke, and air fresheners. As we approach the cooler months, illnesses are on the rise. Children with asthma are more likely to have complications from flu, RSV, and COVID. If your child has been diagnosed with asthma or reactive airway disease, please make sure we have a valid asthma action plan and inhaler on campus for them.
If you feel like your child's asthma is not well controlled, or you have questions about asthma, Metro Health has a wonderful FREE program called SA Kids B.R.E.A.T.H.E. " The SA Kids BREATHE (SAKB) program is a free city program whose primary goal is to improve the quality of the lives of children with asthma by teaching them and their family best practices to control their asthma. The SAKB program will help keep kids out of the hospital, keep kids in school, keep parents at work, and save families and healthcare systems money." A community health worker who specializes in asthma can meet with you and your child to go over what asthma is, how to use inhalers, and how you can prevent flares. They are an amazing resource and they are FREE! If you aren't comfortable meeting with them in your home, you can meet with them here at school.

The nation's largest and longest-running drug-use prevention campaign.
The more students attend school regularly, the more funding the school receives from the state. This funding helps support important resources like teachers, programs, and materials for students. Regular attendance not only helps your child succeed but also helps the school provide the best possible education for all students. Encouraging regular attendance is a win-win for students and Menchaca!
For questions regarding your child's attendance, please contact our PEIMS/Attendance Clerks:
