From the Principal's Desk
Hello Rose Pioneer Families,
Thank you to Rose Pioneer families for your participation in fall Parent Teacher Conferences and our Annual Title 1 Meetings. Both parent teacher conference sessions were a resounding success with nearly 100 percent participation. We appreciate your ongoing support!
Tonight is Fall Family Fun Night from 6 - 8 pm! The Rose Pioneer Nature Trail will be open for Trick or Treating again this year and the North Oakland County Fire Authority, as well as Officer Patercsak will join us. Thank you to Pioneer Parents, as well Holly NJHS student leaders, for making this night possible. As a reminder, Pioneer Parents is partnering with Ruggles Farms on items for our Fall Family Fun Night and Rose Pioneer families are also provided a discount on pumpkins. Please see the fliers below for more details.
The Rose Pioneer Halloween Parade is coming up next Thursday, October 31st at 3:00 pm. As we've done in years past, students will parade from the entrance near the bus lane all the way around the building along the carline sidewalk into the southern front entrance next to Mrs. Wittbrodt's classroom. Parents can stand in the carline, bus lane, or next to the sidewalk on the north end of the building for excellent viewing and picture taking opportunities.
Halloween costume reminders: If you have specific questions regarding your child's classroom party, please contact your child's teacher.
- Students may not wear their costumes to school. Students will change into their costumes at the time of their party. The costumes must be able to go over your child's clothing.
- No gory or scary costumes are allowed.
- Save the makeup and hair dye for trick or treating.
- Absolutely no pretend weapons of any kind will be allowed.
If you aren't already connected, please like Rose Pioneer Elementary School on Facebook and @RosePioneerEl on Twitter.
Thank you for reading and have a wonderful fall weekend!
Sincerely,
Michael Beattie

THE LEADER IN ME
The Leader in Me helps students learn so many things! For example: how to become self-reliant, take initiative, plan ahead, set and track goals, prioritize their time, be considerate of others, express their viewpoint persuasively, resolve conflicts, find creative solutions, value differences, and live a balanced life. The process helps students develop the skills and self-confidence they need to lead their lives and succeed in school and beyond.
The Leader in Me is directly aligned with the CASEL Core Competencies. What are core competencies? Core competencies are the specific skills, habits and mindsets that help students manage their emotions, feel and show empathy, establish and maintain supportive relationships and make responsible decisions.
The Core Competency that is the focus for October is Self Management. Self Management includes managing emotions, thoughts and behavior. It also includes setting and monitoring goals. Sounds a lot like using the Zones of Regulation and Being Proactive, right?
Practicing Self Management at home:
Plenty of popular children’s games can teach children how to regulate their behaviors. Play any of these well-known games that model self-management:
Musical Chairs
Follow the Leader
Simon Says
After playing, discuss what your child learned about listening and being respectful to others.
