Principal's Message
Dear Dragon Families,
Happy December! Here's what's happening during this short but very special month:
- Each year, our school has taken part in a toy drive, led by our third graders, to bring joy to children during the holidays. This year, we are excited to announce a meaningful change to this tradition. Our third-grade class will focus their efforts closer to home by sponsoring a toy drive that will directly benefit students in need within our own community. This initiative not only supports children right here in our area but also helps our students learn the importance of giving back to the people around them. To make contributing even easier, we have created an Amazon wish list with items specifically requested by the children we would like to help. You can access the list here and have your purchases delivered directly to the school. Together, we can make a difference and ensure every child in our community experiences the joy of the season. Thank you for your continued support and generosity.
- Our third graders will host our next Friday Morning Gathering. Be sure to join us at 8:30 in the quad on December 6th.
- We will have our next ELAC meeting on Tuesday, December 10th at 8:30 AM. Join us for Champurrado and piñata making! See the flyer below for more details.
- Report cards will be sent home with scholars on Friday, December 13th. Be sure to check your child's backpack.
- The Los Cerritos Choir will be here on December 12th to provide a holiday concert for our 3rd-5th graders.
- On December 18th, scholars will enjoy a Mad Science assembly. Thank you Ladera STARS Academy PTA for arranging this opportunity for our scholars.
- Sr. Chorus participants will have their winter concert on the evening of December 19th at 7PM in the MPR. They will also perform for the school during the day for our school community.
- Our PTA is sponsoring a FREE movie night on December 6th in the MPR. Our PTA is also hosting a lazer tag fundraiser! Yearbooks are now on sale at a discounted price...don't miss out! See the flyers below for details.

Creation Rotation Art
Check out the great artwork our 1st and 3rd graders created during their art rotations!
3rd graders used chalk pastel to create a lovely winter Aurora Borealis over the mountains, with lake reflection while 1st graders delighted with Monster Stack - sketch, sharpie outline, and crayon. Way to put the A in STEAM! Thank you Art Trek instructors!
Parking Lot Safety
Your help is needed to make our parking lot efficient and safe. Remember:
- no parking along the red curb
- NO LEFT TURN when exiting the parking lot. This causes a traffic jam in the lot and disrupts traffic flow
- do not get out of your vehicle, have your child ready to exit the car, with their backpack, closest to the curb. Scholars should be dressed and ready to exit. If they are not, please park on the street and get your scholar ready.
- if your scholar needs assistance getting to class, please park on the street and walk them inside

YOUR NAME HERE!
Did you know that STARS Academy has a new sponsorship program that allows for your family name to be displayed on our fence? Have your name printed inside of a heart (see image) and display it proudly for everyone to see the support you provide to our school. Check out the link below!
Do you have extra uniform polos that your scholar has outgrown?
Please bring them to the main office to donate! We have many uses for them, including donating to scholars who need a little extra help with acquiring a uniform!

Be On Time!
Our goal is to have 95% positive school attendance and continue to improve each month. This also means getting to school on time and teaching our students to be on time and ready to learn. If you need to report an absence please call the Attendance Line: (805) 241-1065 or email Joanne Vermaak @ jvermaak@conejousd.org. Families have 3 school days to clear absences or else your child will be considered "truant". Also, if you plan to be out of town for 3 or more days, please let our office know.
