Message from the Principal
Dear AOMS Families,
As we prepare for a well-deserved week off, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude for each of you and the unique contributions you bring to our school community. The connection between home and school is the foundation of our students’ success, and your partnership continues to inspire and strengthen all that we do here at AOMS.
This season offers us a chance to reflect on what matters most. For us at AOMS, that means fostering a supportive, inclusive environment where our students not only grow academically but thrive socially and emotionally. It’s through your unwavering support that we can achieve this vision.
As you spend time with loved ones in the week ahead, I encourage you to celebrate the big and small moments, honor traditions, or create new ones that bring joy and meaning to your family. It’s in these moments of connection that we find renewal and purpose.
From our AOMS team we wish you a restful, fulfilling, and joyful week ahead.
With gratitude,
Nicole Johnston Principal

24/7 Virtual Homework Help
Encourage your students to explore our Homework Help webpage, with a variety of databases specifically designed for students in grades K-12. Resources include access to Britannica School in English & Spanish, NoveList, National Geographic Kids, specialized Gale and ProQuest databases and more. These databases provide access to in-depth, primary source information that goes far beyond a basic Google search.
September is Library Card Sign-Up Month
A library card opens the door to a world of knowledge, and we encourage all students to obtain one! Carlsbad City Library representatives can assist students and parents in acquiring their library cards. With this card, a wealth of books, resources, and digital materials are at their fingertips. Show your library card or register for a new one at any of our three library locations during the month of September to earn a reward while supplies last.
Student ID Access for Carlsbad City Library eBooks and eAudiobooks
We're thrilled to announce that students can now access a curated selection of Carlsbad City Library's vast collection of eBooks and eAudiobooks via Sora, the OverDrive reading app. Your district selects filters to ensure students access age-appropriate Carlsbad City Library materials using their student ID, eliminating the need for a library card. Sora makes reading easier than ever, so encourage your students to explore literature. To set up Sora for your school, email Laura.Mendez@carlsbadca.gov.
Thanksgiving Safety Tips from the City of Carlsbad
Thanksgiving traffic safety tips
With Thanksgiving coming up, you may notice more people walking, driving and biking. Here are some tips to help everyone stay safe on the road over the holiday.
- If you have a new e-bike rider at home, have them take the Safer Streets Together pledge. It may seem like a small action, but studies show that when someone makes a pledge, they’re more likely to follow through.
- It’s getting darker earlier. Help your student select bright clothing and reflective gear to wear when walking or biking at night, and make sure their bike has working front and rear lights. This video shows how to prep for a night bike ride.
- Talk to your student about the rules of the road, including rules for pedestrians and bicyclists, and Carlsbad-specific e-bike rules.
We’re thankful for your help keeping our community safe.
