Hello Moravia Park Families,


Happy August! I hope you are all staying well and enjoying your summer with your loved ones. I am excited that less than a month away, we welcome back our wonderful scholars for the 2021-2022 school year! I am incredibly proud of our partnership this past year, coming together during challenging times, and finding ways to continue to support our scholars as learners and leaders. Beginning August 30th, scholars will return five days a week to full time school at Moravia Park. As a school community, we have learned so much this past year, and we are excited to collectively grow our hearts, minds, and our school community.


This past school year, we were one of the largest in-person school sites, welcoming scholars back for in-person and virtual instruction, as well as offering after-school programming for scholar enrichment experiences. This summer we have continued to provide instructional and enrichment learning experiences for our Moravia Park scholars through our various programs: Judy Center Summer Camps, Lion Learning Camp, Summer LIT, and SALA. It has been awesome to see our scholars shine this summer and we look forward to continuing to see them do so this school year.


This school year we will continue to prioritize health and safety protocols, as the safety of our scholars, families, staff members, and community members will remain at the center of our work together. While we know our work ahead will be challenging, we know as partners in the work, we will support our scholars to have a successful year of growing and learning! Throughout August, we will have Back to School festivities, to get exciting about our new school year. We hope you join us and we look forward to seeing you throughout August!

New Bell Times and Before/After Care

Moravia Park will have new start and end bell times this school year. Scholars' school day will begin at 9:15am and end at 3:55pm. We will continue to offer in-person before and after care with our partner, Youth Sports Program, for a fee. In addition, we will offer free learning and enrichment programs beginning in October.

Scholar Uniforms

Scholars are encouraged to wear navy polos (or Moravia Park T-shirts) and khaki bottoms. If you prefer to get a shirt with a school logo on it, they can be printed and purchased at Hermans on Greenmount; however, this is completely optional and not required. Scholars are also asked to wear closed toe shoes. As we work together as a community, we are looking to have a uniform exchange later in August and have a small supply of uniforms for families in need.

Corner to Corner Bus Registration

This year Baltimore City Schools is requiring all schools to input all scholars that will need corner to corner bus service for this school year. If you plan to have your scholar(s) take corner to corner bus transportation, please complete this survey:

Learn, Play, & Engage in Pre-Kindergarten

We look forward to welcoming more lion cubs to join us for Pre-Kindergarten this school year. Our Pre-Kindergarten and Judy Center Team work closely together to create meaningful, rich learning experiences for our scholars to express their curiosity and creativity through play and learning. Register your scholars today!

In addition to Pre-Kindergarten, we are registering Kindergarten through 5th Grade scholars. If you know families that recently moved into our wonderful community, encourage them to complete the interest survey or call Moravia Park. We look forward to welcoming new lions into our school community!

Meet Mr. Kirkland, our new Secretary

Please give Mr. Kirkland a roaring welcoming into our school community as our new Secretary. He has worked in Baltimore City Public School for six years in various positions, including: Resource Teacher, Dean of Scholars, and most recently, School Secretary. Mr. Kirkland shares, "I am very excited for the opportunity to join the Moravia Park community and can't wait to engage with all new staff, families, and community partners."

Homeroom Assignments and Scholar Schedules

All homeroom and scholar schedules can be accessed through Campus Portal this school year. In addition, we will be mailing families their scholars' homerooms in mid-August with the address we have on file and having staff members available to share this information during our Community Cookout and Backpack Give Away and Sneak Peak at Your Seat events. In the meantime, we encourage all families to work on getting access to Campus Portal.
