Redoubt's Student Handbook's Policy on Clothing, Cold Weather and Outdoor Recess
Students should come to school dressed for the weather and prepared to go outside. All children go outside for recess until the chill factor temperature is minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Generally, any child well enough to come to school is well enough to go outside for recess. Even shortened recesses give the children a much-needed break in routine and fresh air. A child too sick to go outside should be recuperating at home. When special circumstances exist, students may be allowed to remain indoors for recess with a doctor’s note.
Boots are essential for outdoor recess. A pair of hard soled shoes with no open backs that covers the entire feet, should be kept at school to wear inside the building. Sitting with boots on all day is not healthy for feet. Students should have a heavy, winter weight coat, snow pants or a snowsuit, warm hat or hood, winter boots, and gloves or mittens. Students are to wear their winter gear to and from school and during lunch and recess times only. Contact the school nurse if you need help securing these items for your child.
Student Messages/End of Day Procedure
A reminder that all parents must call the office with a change of plans for students by 2:30. Please, do not Dojo or text your teacher regarding messages or releasing a student early. For safety reasons these messages will not be honored. All information must go through the office. We try very hard to keep everyone safe and going home according to everyone's plans. Our teachers are very busy at the end of the day going over their daily work and getting their students ready to go where they need to be. Our busses arrive by 3:20 and our students start to load at that time.
Please remember that all calls after 2:45 go directly to our voicemail, so please leave a message and we will get to them once all earlier messages have been taken care of. Thank you for your understanding as we try our best to make sure all our students get home safe.
Help us keep your child safe on their way to school.
Parents, our number one priority is to keep your child safe. Please make sure they are dressed with clothing that is visible, bright and or reflective to a driver. Also, please ask your child to use the crosswalks as this is the safest way to cross the street.
Parking Lot Rules Reminder for Drop Off & Pick Up
Dear Redoubt Parents,
Please end your cell phone activity when in line to drop off or pick up your child. Please be always on the look out for students who may be walking and for other vehicles around you.
We also ask you to please slow down when driving through our parking lot. We have many students, staff and parents utilizing this space.
As always, we want to keep your child and everyone here at Redoubt safe.
Thank you for your understanding.
