VOGELTOWN SCHOOL PANUI
TE KURA O HUATOKI. TERM 3, WEEK 7, 2024.
KIA ORA VOGELTOWN WHĀNAU!
Market night success!
It was wonderful to see so many people attend the Build a Business market night yesterday. There was a lovely atmosphere about the place as people visited classes to view and purchase products. I know they were plenty of excited children who were super keen to both buy and sell products.
Build a Business is a unit of learning designed to help children learn about business and entrepreneurship by starting their own companies. They form a team, come up with a product, and then develop, market, and sell it. The children are loaned real money to buy and create products, and have to pay this back at the end - with any profits going towards a team day out at the end of the year.
It's a great way to develop skills and get a taste of what it's like to run a business while gaining real-world experience in areas like: entrepreneurial thinking, teamwork and collaboration, financial literacy, leadership and decision making, and resilience and adaptability.
There has clearly been plenty of work that has gone into this by the teachers. Bringing different children together and helping them to manage themselves within a working group can be a major mission -alongside the learning and work required to get a product ready for sale. Many thanks to them for their efforts in this space.
Vogeltown School Home and School committee has also been very supportive - they lent the money for all the loans and were there selling sausages last night too.
What a great example of learning, whānau, and our wider community coming together around learning! Many thanks for your support.
Mā te wā! See you later!

THANK YOU MRS RH!
Mrs RH has been teaching in Room 15 while Mr George has been away. and I wanted to express our gratitude for the great job she has done!
It’s never easy to step into someone else's space but Cara has been able to use her extensive experience to continue a programme of learning that catered for all learners. The children have produced great quality work and a quick visit to the room will have you noticing the many wonderful art works the children have done.

SMASH PLAY CRICKET SKILLS
This week our Year 0-4 children were lucky enough to have Liam Muggeridge from Taranaki Cricket come in to school to take them for some basic cricket based games. Our tamariki had so much fun. We managed to capture some photos of our junior children in action.
MARKET NIGHT PHOTOS
CROSS COUNTRY
This Tuesday 10th September, we will be holding our school cross-country event.
We will assemble on the back field at the senior school, in age groups, after morning tea. We'll move through in age order, with our first runners due to start at about 11:40am.
Our 5 and 6 year olds will complete one lap of the school, our 7 and 8 years olds will complete two laps, and our 9, 10 and 11 year old children will run three laps.
Our focus is on personal achievement. We want all children to participate and to challenge themselves to do their personal best. It’s not about being the best but about each person pushing themselves to do their best. This is what matters most.
OUT OF ZONE ENROLMENTS FOR 2025
We are looking to finalise our enrolments for 2025 and need your help!
Please let us know if this sounds like you:
- Living out of the Vogeltown School zone
- Have a child currently enrolled with us, who will still be with us in 2025
- Have another child who you wish to start school with us as as New Entrant in 2025
Please contact the senior office if all of the above apply to you, so that we can plan for 2025 with you in mind.
Thanks whānau!
USING A PEDESTRIAN CROSSING
- As you come up to the crossing, slow down and be ready to stop.
- Stop and give way to any pedestrians on or stepping onto the crossing – this also includes people waiting to use the crossing. Do this by waiting behind the white limit line.
- If there’s no raised traffic island in the middle of the crossing, stop and give way to pedestrians on any part of the crossing.
- If there’s a raised traffic island in the middle of the crossing, stop and give way to pedestrians on your half of the road.
Remember:
- If you’re in a line of traffic near a pedestrian crossing, don’t move onto the crossing if there isn’t enough room for your vehicle on the other side of the crossing.
Tips for school crossings:
- Warning signs and road markings will tell you a school crossing is ahead.
- As you come up to the crossing, slow down and be ready to stop.
- If the school patrol stop sign is out, stop behind the white limit line. Stay stopped until all signs have been pulled in.
- Do not park on yellow lines near pedestrian crossings or park over driveways
Remember:
- Keep a look out for children at all times. Take special care when driving during 8am–9am and 3pm–4pm, when children are travelling to and from school.
- Watch out for cars and buses picking up or dropping off children.
