A Note From the Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Unfortunately, winter illnesses are going around here at school and we had lots of absences this week. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us to try to stop the spread of illness at school. Please keep these things in mind:

See Mrs. Park and Mrs. Kolenich's notes in the newsletter each week to be aware of what illnesses we may be seeing at school and which symptoms to look for.
Keep your child home from school if they are sick. Children must be fever free for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of fever-reducing medication before they can return to school.
Always call the office by 10am if your child is home sick. We have a 24-hour attendance voicemail, so you can even call the night before if you know your child will be out. The number to call is 440-286-5901. If you do not call by 10am, we will call you to check on your child.
If your child is out sick for 3 consecutive days, please send a doctor's note with them when they return to school.

2nd Grade CogAT Testing - February 3-7

Parents of 2nd grade students,

The State of Ohio requires school districts to offer whole-grade testing to all students twice during their education to identify gifted learners. As part of this process, all 2nd grade students will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) from February 3-7, 2025. The CogAT assesses overall cognitive and reasoning abilities and can identify students who meet the qualifying score as gifted in superior cognitive ability. Based on the results, some students may undergo additional evaluation for possible gifted identification in creative thinking ability. After testing, individual student CogAT results will be sent home with students. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this assessment, please feel free to contact Linda Elegante or Megan Kinney at megan.kinney@chardonschools.org.

Clinic Corner

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As you know, there are many respiratory illnesses surging. RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) and the flu (influenza) are among these. Both viruses can have similar symptoms. It is important to monitor your child for these symptoms and keep them home if they are sick. Some common symptoms are fever, fatigue, cough, loss of appetite, sore throat, runny nose/congestion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, wheezing and body aches. If you notice these symptoms, please take your child to see a healthcare provider to confirm with a simple test what illness they have. Continued hand washing and covering coughs and sneezes is our greatest defense in keeping those around us healthy. If your child is sick please keep them home per your provider's recommendations.

Reminder, as with any illness, children should be fever free for 24 hours WITHOUT fever reducers prior to returning to school. Thank you for your continued help in keeping our schools healthy.

Topper Tickets

Topper Tickets are given to students as a special recognition when they demonstrate a Topper Trait - Taking Responsibility, Offering Kindness, and Persevering. Each day, we randomly select a few Topper Ticket winners from each grade level to receive a prize! Check the newsletter each week for their names!

Chardon Family Connection Night - January 23!

Are you looking for ways to grow together as a family? Join us at Chardon Middle School for a 4-part series of activities to foster connection and build confidence within your family. Donut with a Grownup!

Join the PTO for Donut with a Grownup! Students and ONE adult are welcome to enjoy donuts with their grade level from 8:30-9:10am in the gym.

1st grade - February 4

2nd grade - February 11

3rd grade - February 25

**Please note, this year you MUST RSVP by January 24 if students will be attending. The RSVP form is below and was sent home with each student. Let your child's teacher know if you need another copy. We hope to see you there!

Special Guy & I Dance is February 15! SIGN UP HERE!

All Munson girls and a special guy (dad, stepdad, grandpa, uncle, etc.) are invited to the PTO's Special Guy & I dance on Saturday, February 15 from 6:30-8:30pm at Veteran's Legacy Woods. Cost is $20 per couple, and $10 for each additional girl. You can also order a corsage for $5 when you purchase tickets!

My Special Guy and I Dance Registration
