Lisbon Community Celebrates a Week of Education and Fun
The halls of Lisbon have been buzzing with excitement and enthusiasm as students, teachers, and staff came together to celebrate Read Across America Week. From spirit days to engaging activities, the past week has been nothing short of memorable for the Lisbon community.
Kicking off the festivities, we all embraced our Lisbon pride and school spirit with a series of themed days, showcasing the unity and spirit of the school. Students and staff adorned themselves in crazy hats, game gear, and pajamas, showcasing their Lisbon pride throughout the week.
One of the highlights of the week was the Lisbon Vocabulary Parade, where students showcased their creativity by making vocabulary spirit wear and parading around the building for all to read. The parade not only encouraged literacy but also fostered imagination and expression among our students.
Another remarkable event was the Super Mario Reading Night, which saw an impressive turnout of over 170 students. It was an evening filled with adventure and learning as students and their families dove into the world of literacy and participated in a variety of fun and engaging reading activities, Super Mario style!
Today marked the culmination of the week-long celebration, with students and staff dressing up as their favorite storybook characters. The school was transformed into a colorful array of beloved literary figures, igniting the imaginations of all who walked the halls.
None of these events would have been possible without the dedicated efforts of Mrs. Hansen and Mrs. Meiklejohn, who tirelessly planned, organized, and executed the Reading Week festivities. Their commitment to promoting literacy and fostering a love for reading has left a lasting impact on the entire Lisbon community.
In addition to the Read Across America Week celebrations, Lisbon Elementary School also extends its gratitude to the Lisbon PTA for organizing a highly successful STEM Night. Mrs. Landry, along with the PTA, orchestrated an evening filled with engaging Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math activities, drawing a tremendous response from the community.
The success of these events underscores the strong sense of community and collaboration that defines Lisbon Elementary School. As we wrap up this eventful week, let us carry forward the spirit of learning, creativity, and togetherness that has been so wonderfully displayed by our students, teachers, and families.

Counselor's Corner
During recent classroom counseling lessons, many students reviewed the Zones of Feelings and discussed different Calming Strategies to use when they’re feeling big emotions.
The below analogy is also a good one to share with your child(ren) to help them understand the importance of emptying their Tolerance Cup throughout the day.

News From The Health Room
It is sometimes difficult to decide whether your child is too sick to go to school. As a general rule, a child should stay home if they have:
- A fever higher than 100 degrees Fahrenheit
- Vomited (not caused by motion sickness or a gag reflex unassociated with illness)
- Diarrhea
- A very frequent cough
- Persistent pain (tooth, ear, stomach, etc.)
- A widespread rash
Most of these problems need to be discussed with your child’s healthcare provider to determine if an office visit is needed. Please keep your child at home when ill or having a fever (100F or above). Students should stay home until fever free WITHOUT fever reducing medication for 24 hours.
To help prevent the flu and other colds, please encourage your children to use good hygiene habits:
- Wash hands frequently
- Do not touch eyes, nose or mouth
- Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, use a paper tissue, throw it away and then wash hands
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick
