May is a time for celebration, reflection, and continued growth! We’re so proud of everything our Mustangs have accomplished so far and look forward to supporting them as they keep learning and thriving through the end of the school year.

Our 3rd–6th grade students begin CAASPP state testing in early May. We wish them the very best as they show what they’ve learned! Please help by ensuring they get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, arrive on time, and give their best effort. You've got this, Mustangs—we believe in you!

This month, we’re focusing on two powerful character attributes: Risk-Taker and Reflective. Risk-Takers are brave, try new things, and learn from mistakes. Reflective students think about their experiences, recognize their growth, and set goals for the future.

Together, these traits help our students continue building confidence, resilience, and pride as we head into the final weeks of school.

Los alumnos de 3.º a 6.º grado comienzan el examen estatal CAASPP a principios de mayo. ¡Les deseamos mucho éxito mientras demuestran todo lo que han aprendido! Por favor, ayúdenos asegurándose de que duerman bien, desayunen algo saludable, lleguen a tiempo y den lo mejor de sí. ¡Sí se puede, Mustangs! ¡Confiamos en ustedes!

Este mes estamos enfocándonos en dos atributos de carácter muy importantes: Audaz y Reflexivo. Los alumnos audaces son valientes, intentan cosas nuevas y aprenden de sus errores. Los alumnos reflexivos piensan en sus experiencias, reconocen su crecimiento y establecen metas para el futuro.

Juntos, estos atributos ayudan a nuestros alumnos a seguir desarrollando confianza, resiliencia y orgullo mientras nos acercamos al final del ciclo escolar.

How Can Parents Help Their Children Become Risk-Takers and Reflective Learners?

Risk-takers are willing to try new things, take on challenges, and stand up for what they believe in—even when it's not easy. Reflective learners take time to think about their actions, their learning, and how they can grow.

Here’s how you can support both traits at home:

• Encourage your child to try new activities—even if they feel unsure or nervous.

• Celebrate effort, bravery, and learning from mistakes.

• After a challenge or experience, ask your child to reflect on what went well and what could be improved.

• Model reflection by thinking aloud about your own day or choices.

• Support journaling, drawing, or quiet time as a way to process thoughts and feelings.

Try asking:

• “What’s something new you were brave enough to try today?”

• “What did you learn about yourself?”

• “If you could do that again, what might you do differently?”

• “How did that experience help you grow?”

¿Cómo pueden los padres ayudar a sus hijos a ser audaces y reflexivos?

Los alumnos audaces se atreven a intentar cosas nuevas, enfrentan desafíos y defienden lo que creen correcto, incluso cuando es difícil. Los alumnos reflexivos se toman el tiempo para pensar sobre sus acciones, su aprendizaje y cómo pueden mejorar.

Aquí tienes algunas formas de apoyar ambos atributos en casa:

• Anima a tu hijo(a) a participar en nuevas actividades, aunque sienta dudas o nervios.

• Celebra el esfuerzo, la valentía y el aprendizaje a partir de los errores.

• Después de un reto o experiencia, pregúntale qué salió bien y qué se podría mejorar.

• Da el ejemplo reflexionando en voz alta sobre tu propio día o tus decisiones.

• Fomenta el uso de un diario, dibujos o tiempo tranquilo para procesar pensamientos y emociones.

Prueba haciendo preguntas como:

• “¿Qué intentaste hoy que requirió valentía?”

• “¿Qué aprendiste sobre ti mismo(a)?”

• “Si pudieras hacerlo de nuevo, ¿qué harías diferente?”
